thanks, i changed it a bit though. i tried to go a bit more natural looking hows this? (update at top ^)

for the runes i googled (dwarf runes) or something but those are P,W,and R.

edit: went back for more of the original style again.

If yer wondering why yer having trouble compiling, in this case, it maybe because the texture BMP is 24-bit.

my version of photoshop wouldnt let me use exact palette options for some reason. so i tried putting it into wally i guess it didnt help. really need to get gimp for just incases like this. thanks for the info though. now i know it doesnt work. i hope the smd actually worked i forgot to add a bone. good to see it in jeds though =).

In Photoshop the mode you want is Image->Mode->"Indexed Color...". Palette doesn't have to be exact, as long as you aren't doing masked textures or some such. Does have to use all 256 colors, but there should be dialog options for that when you set Indexed Color Mode - use "Local (Perceptual)".

when i use anything but exact the colors get messed up and it looks like a horrible quake texture. what i used to use when making hl textures was the exact option? (the pallete, not where dithering and stuff is) normally exact saved 256 colors but used only the colors that were in the texture. the other options use colors from premade palettes.

Local (Perceptual) [aka. Perceptual Palette] picks from a palette of 16,777,216 colors, favoring the ranges most commonly perceptible to the human eye.

Local (Adaptive) [aka. Adaptive Palette] does the same, but tries to bend the color wheel towards the most commonly occurring colors in the image.

^ In most PS versions, these two have additional options for dithering by noise or diffusion.

Exact, uses the last 256 palette that was last used (fixed number of colors that varies with the image), or, uses less than 256 colors, if there are not already 256+ colors in the image. If there's no previous palette, and more than 256 colors, the option will be grayed out.

System (XX) picks from a fixed palette based on an OS (Mac/Windows).

Web picks from a fixed palette of 216 "Web Friendly" colors.

Uniform, generates a 256 color ramp (from 16mil) based on colors in the image, distributing as evenly as possible across all the spectrum.

...and of course Custom - is DIYS (or load a previous pal/col/act file).

aw that kinda sucks. but thanks for liking my model =D at least i didnt win by default and it sucked xD.
