None of these shall be bought! None shall work on Undeads!

Dark Bolt - Fires a small mass of dark energy. Drains 5% of the user's current HP instead of mana. (Level 4 Spell Casting)

Drain - Transfers the targeted enemy HP for 5+(Dark Casting Level)x(0.5 of Spell Casting Level). Damages the users if used on Unholy & Undead. (Level 7 Spell Casting)
*This is fair IMO. Dark Magic lvl 20 and SC 15 = 32.5 per drain. Just needs a decent amount MP taken*

Fear - Immobolizes the enemy with fear. Drains 10% of the user's HP instead of mana. If used on Unholy/Undead, it will damage themself. (Level 7 Spell Casting)

Mental Change - Convert 5% HP into 5% MP. (Level 1 Spell Casting)

Haunt - Creates a field of darkness that injures enemies that walks through them and a very long effect of damage over time of 1% damage. Drains 15% of the current user's HP. Heals Undead/Unholy. (Level 11 Spell Casting)

Vampiric Aura - Drains 50% of the current user's HP and lasts 3 minutes. Every hit made by the user drains 50% of the damage. Reverse effect when hitting Unholy/Undead. (Level 15 Spell Casting)

I like these ideas. Would be great to have a different kind of magic and another sub skill to level.

Speaking of which, I thought this gem was just.. awesome:

It won't make it exactly easier to train magic. If I recall it was 6-7 Spell level equals 1 Spell Casting Level. Adding Dark Magic would just make it longer but more spells :D

My spells are more of a Life taker than a Brain drainage. That's why the next skill up next from Dark Bolt is Drain.

Mental Change seems pretty useless, IMO. Getting a lot of MP back is as easy as sitting for a second.

Other than that, pretty kickass ideas. :)

SC requirements need to be higher or it will make training easier. Also, I don't think thothie is planning on adding spells until hes able to redo the SC system and add earth magic.

Okay well, there can be some adjustments such as it can be used even in combat mode or increase the conversion. But keep in mind it is a SC level 1 spell.

Why shouldn't they be bought? In fact, why can't most things in this game be bought from an npc? Gold seems to become absolutely worthless once you get past level 5 anything in this game.

There's something I'm missing here in the economical logic of an npc refusing to sell or buy certain objects that EVERYONE wants (emphasis on the word 'sell').

Dark bolt and Mental change seem like the most useful and least complicated of the list. However, Mental change should probably come with complimentary spell that has the reverse effect (although it would be fun to be the ONLY player with 0 HP max)

Although, I'm probably missing something about that too.

Are you kidding? What about getting the unbreakable golden axe? 100,000 gold. Kind of a lot of money.

Yeah - said comment was made back in MAY2006, when the only working spells we had were Fire Dart and Erratic Lightning - of course made it past SC 8! :p

Now people make it past SC 8 before they can blink.

Most all those spells would be Affliction. Affliction is our death magic category. I suppose eventually we'll be renaming our spell categories along elemental lines (fire, water, earth, air, death, life) but not until we can come up with a way to rebalance the spell system that doesn't result in me being crucified.

I think if you threatened the community with your new system or no new spells they would let you get away with it.

Thothie can get away with anything, only because without him, we would be playing with Erratic Lightning and Fire Dart.

I think if you threatened the community with your new system or no new spells they would let you get away with it.
That's essentially where we are. At least no spells that raise sourcery XP under level 20.

Well, try a poll again. The majority of people I have talked to seem to be ok with a revamping of the SC system if it allows for new spells.

I totally support the SC system revamp as long as you remove summoning and protection spells from the SC level formula or make it possible to level said subskills because they are holding everyone back.

These are excellent ideas for a new set of magic, There also should be some kind of attack that is compressed dark matter. Kinda like "Shadow Ball" It Would be compressed Dark Matter Into a unstable form so when it would be fired, It'd strike a surface and or monster; Then explode. Exploding because it's unstable of course, But this is only a suggestion. It'd be better though in the Source version, So we can get that animation you get when you hit a enemy with anti-matter and they fade to nothing. :wink:

That's the point. Everyone would be SC 30 with 900 mana by now otherwise, and tossing freezing spheres like fire darts.

so...revamp system, down the ammount of mana we get...make it so that level 30 SC is actually comparable to 30 blunt/axe/sword/dagger

Absolutely impossible, unless I also make SC only do something akin to what blunt/axe/sword/dagger do. (Envisions MSC fans showing up at door with pitchfork and torches.)

I like that magic is kinda hard. Swinging a sharp sword is easy, forming fire from nothing would be rather hard.
