I thought it would be great to add a button to let everyone in game you are AFK when you press it. You could press the same button again to turn it off. I know that not everyone will use it or think to use it, but I think it'd be helpful to let other players know you are not there. I was thinking you could add it to the "v" menu options. It would be great if it was possible to have AFK written above one's head, or to the player name description. Instead of "deadly" or "friendly" it could say "AFK" when you set it.

Good idea, actually...Might be better to put an (AFK) in front of their name or something, as opposed to targeting. That way, you don't need to track their character down to see if they're away, and you can instantly find out.

or you could just make it when a person who is not active for sometime (2-5min) it will automatically show a message or some tag to show he is afk

Voted no as there is already a console command that is bindable to show who in the server is afk and I don't think it's really needed.

Believe it's lplayers scriptvar IS_AFK

Thothie posted it somewhere a few months ago. It'll come up with a list of who is in the server and should have either a 0 or 1 next to their name. 1 representing the person is AFK as according to thoths system. Granted it's not a "HEY GUYS I'LL BRB" kinda thing, but still, you could also hit the HOME button and then Page up to read through a bit of chat to see so upon return. Theres also Steam friends and so on to let certain people know this.

In my mind something like this really isn't needed. Granted if someone whipped up the code/script for it I do believe thothie takes donations :p

Well that flag is to tally up the amount of time a player is AFK over the course of the map, to know if they should be counted for treasure or not. I suppose Thothie could rig something up to say if someone was AFK when that var is true, but theres really no need for it. I don't think games get more than 8 people and if somebody is AFK its usually pretty obvious.

Or the player can get booted so another non-afk player can join and help...

Edit: Or have the server kick the afk player after a certain amount of time like those NS servers.

alias brb1 "say I'm going AFK;alias brb brb2"
alias brb2 "say I'm back!;alias brb brb1"
alias brb brb1

bind b brb
(ripping off Thothies extra binds scripts)

Works, eh? (100000 hours in notepad)

Well it's true if everyone entered the server together, you'd be able to figure it out if they are AFK or not. But when people are coming and going it's easy to lose track. If you were to say a global message to someone, and they don't answer, at least you'd know they were AFK and why you didn't get a reply, instead of other reasons (those other reasons I'll leave up to you the reader). Tull your AFK bind is great for letting everyone know you've left, but how long does it take for chat to disappear? I think it within 2 minutes or so. I know I've seen chat stay there longer, but it often doesn't. If I were to join the server after you've said that and the text is gone, how would I know you're AFK? And Thraxis, from what you've said, your suggestion really won't say or do what I'm really asking for. It's great to figure out who counts for treasure, but that's it. Does the counter still work once the treasure been had? Imagine entering a map trying to chat with the only guy that is left who is AFK and the treasure been gotten for the map and you want to know if it has or not. At least knowing, you wouldn't waste your time trying to chat with that player and look for yourself.

My idea behind it is to help who want to be more considerate of other players when they are playing. I know I would use it, as I leave my keyboard often enough when I'm playing. Though for me, instead of it saying AFK, I'd want it to say "Smoke Break"

You can´t tell him. There is only one cure for it: BAN!

I don´t think that beeing afk would add anything to the game at all :|! Simply because an afk player = wasted slot (except if he was afk for 5-15 minutes, but we don´t need an afk-setting for that me thinks).

Hey, I just had an idea to make it a little easier to set the afk setting up. If you were to type AFK in any chat, it could report who has set the AFK key and if no-one has then it would say "no players have set AFK". I would think this would be the easiest way to code this into the game.

Yup this could be real usefull. One time iwent AFK and someone came on the server tryna talk to me, ended up flaming cos they though i was ignoring them, if they had seen an AFK, i think it may have prevented that. I dont know if i can, i aint a good coder, but i may try to do this tonight or whenever i have time.Good idea.

Anyone who's dumb enough to start flaming an AFK person wouldn't be able to understand the "signs" we add, anyway :|
