So a few days ago the most well-known weblog here in the Netherlands, GeenStijl, published an email they had received from a woman named Angenita on the front page.
In this email, Angenita mentions she found out something strange about the "Farm Mix" candy bags from candy producer Katja.
There's supposed to be three types of candy in this bag:
- banana-flavoured liquorice monkey heads
- chocolate-flavoured liquorice cow heads
- strawberry-flavoured liquorice pig heads
However, this Angenita told that she hadn't noticed any strawberry-flavoured liquorice pig heads in any of the bags for a few weeks now. She then guessed that Katja (the company that produces the candy) silently removed the pig heads in hopes of not offending people with a certain religious background. In other words: muslims.
At first I thought it was either bull**** or maybe a commercial for Katja (which is odd, because GeenStijl rarely turns commercials into news posts on the front page) but today I was in the local supermarket and I saw a bag of Farm Mix.
So I bought it, opened it back at home, and indeed there are no pig heads to be found.
I don't have a problem with muslims, but *if* it's indeed muslims who complained about candy pig heads being offensive to them, that is just too sad for words. Why act like a big babby when you can simply not buy the ****ing candy?
Discuss!
