Sabre banned me from Thothie's server and the Newbie server. When there are less than a dozen servers, being perma banned from 2 servers really hurts. I'm sorry, and I should have realized earlier, but this is really ridiculous. I tried to learn a lightning storm spell. I counted my memorized spells beforehand and I only had 7 spells memorized. But a little after I clicked, the server I was on shut down. There was no warning, and I did not know the server crash had anything to do with me. Servers crash often in this game and I thought it was an isolated case. So, I joined a second server, tried to learn the spell again, and the server shut down. By this time, I suspected that it was my tome. I joined the server Sabre was on because I heard he was a dev. I told him I thought the server was going to crash because there was a bug. The server crashed. So, Sabre bans me, tells me I was doing it intentionally and won't even ask how the hell I was crashing the server. I have since thrown the tome away. I am sorry, but it was not my fault. I would like to be unbanned.

Sabre didn't perm ban you from those two servers, Thothie did.

And you wouldn't of been banned from those servers if you'd just:
1) Told us that to begin with, rather than "trying" it again. If it crashed the first time, what the f*ck do you expect the second?
2) Didn't act like you were f*cking around. Both times you said "I feel a crash coming on" and "Server is about to crash" before hand. To me, those don't sound like "Lol, trying to learn Lightning Storm causes servers to crash"

According to Sabre you say something along the lines of "HAY GAYZ SRVR IS GONNA CRASH" then try to learn an extra tome and crash the server.

You're lucky that you don't get a 2 month rollback for bullshit like that. Izikar got one for purposely crashing server, you just get a few server bans. Go play with TFL or something.

Not to mention Age got rolled back two months for just doing it once, on accident.

Well, in that case, I should count myself lucky. And I did not say "HAY GAYZ SRVR IS GONNA CRASH." I don't even type like that. Utter and complete bullshit... but as long as its not permanent. Fair 'nough.

In my opinion, this is some really shit behaviour from the devs.

So he tries to learn an 8th tome (LS in this case), and the server crashes. Not certain it was his fault, he connects again and retrys. Server crashes again. Admitted, maybe at this point it's worth saying something to an expericenced member (Sabre in this case), but just to be sure it absolutely is the cause of the crash, he tries a 3rd time - and is banned for it.

In case you don't get my point, he was banned for dilligence.

He was only making sure it was absolutely the cause so once it was reported, it didn't turn out to be a complete waste of time chasing a non-existant bug.

I also want to mention that NO-ONE has yet stated they will look into this bug, or are already doing so.

Yes, he may have worded what he said wrong ("I feel a crash coming on" and "Server is about to crash") but even in that case, this would be a first-time offender, not a known troublemaker. Also, did you even ask WHY he suspected a crash?

I can't believe someone trying to help bugfix the game got treated so badly. I sure hope this is a rare occurence.

Did you read villager's post? If he had even suspected it was the cause of the crash he could have said "I'm going to try and learn this tome and it might crash the server".

Its entirely his fault that he "worded it wrong". Its not poor behavior or judgment to assume that somebody saying "I feel a crash coming" then the server crashing did it on purpose.

If he was serious about this he would of told us AFTER the first (Which was really his second) crash, and seeing how he knew that it would crash from the "first" warning, this wasn't is first and second time, this was his second and third. I don't think you need to crash a server full of players to see if it's actually (And, btw, there IS a f*cking warning about crashing when you learn your FIRST tome spell) the tome was trying to learn.

HIS behavior is completely un-f*cking-acceptable.

Ye can only "accidentally" crash a server so many times before it becomes deliberate. ;)

I’ll make it a temp ban, reluctantly, as generally the conditions for lifting a ban are actually admitting what ye did was wrong, but I guess you’ve got the idea at least.

This bug was also really supposed to be gone by now – I’m not sure why it’s still happening. If Shurik3n ever finalizes his new spell system and sends it my way, I suppose that’d zap it for good, but until then, try not to be an idiot. I get this lovely beep whenever the server crashes, and then aliens start yelling at me about their competition making strange noises in the night.

I pushed it on Thraxis to give him something to try... suppose I can whip it up tonight though, or I can just make a temp thing to stop a spell from learning by message size instead of 8 tomes.

EDIT: Tried to learn a glow scroll, but apparently my 24 SC is too low... :|

EDIT2: Same for fire dart and rat summon....

Odd thing is, there's already a thingie in there to prevent that.

Ruh oh... >_>

Something up in GISpell.cpp's bool CGenericItem::Spell_LearnSpell( const char *pszSpellName ) no doubt.

Shuri, we talked about this, I couldn't do anything due to not having access to the scripts to make an array like you wanted to. After saying you'd make the array for me, I never got it. Then after your tome post I figured you'd had taken it over.

Rofl, let me make it clear that I'm not a developer... I model and skin, but I don't do the amount of work that the coders do. Even so, next time, read the big pop-ups that say that if you do something too much, you'll crash ;)

EDIT: And, just cause I'm in the MS:C development steamgroup, once again, doesn't mean I'm a developer...Contribuotor, tops ;).
