Can you see my server?

I was thinking of running a dedicated server while I'm away, I got a 100Mb connection. It's a US West server, uses [FN] as the central server, and since there aren't very many MS:C servers, I figure why not?

So, I got everything set up, works nice, only one problem: No one seems to be able to connect (or maybe, while I left it running for a day, no one could connect...). So, I just wanted a response on whether any of you can see my server and if you're able to connect. Might be a firewall problem, but I'm pretty sure it's disabled. Anywho, here's the IP:

192.168.244.85:27016

Thanks for your response in advance :)

Okay, lets see, the address starts with 192.168... that's a bad sign already :) (no I can't see your server...)

I'll try and give a walk-though.

1. Make sure in your router settings you have all the necessary ports open. I use 27005-27020 both TCP and UDP, just for the hell of it.

2. Make sure you have "ip *.*.*.*" in your HLDS MSC folders Server.cfg File. (Get your Outside IP from http://www.whatismyip.com)

3. Also Make sure that you have Sv_lan 0 in your server file, and maybe even +Sv_lan 0 in your HLDS parameters list. Just for fun.

If you want to play on FuzNet (which is a nice thing for other players)

add these 3 lines to your Server.Cfg file as well:

ms_central_enabled 1
ms_central_addr "cboat.mine.nu"
ms_central_pass "testing"

Pretty sure im not missing anything, anyone else got any tips?

I've already tried all that other stuff, but haven't messed with that ip command for your outside IP yet. Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Just out of curiousity, since I'm a networking newb, what's wrong with the 192.168?

It is more or less due too that a firewall or other item will or may prevent the outside world from connecting too you...

192.168.X.XX tends too be the IP address of people behind a router and/or network hub...

But people will or may have problems connecting too you, and this (as I said) is resultant from the router/network hub preventing this from happening...

People will need your real ip address too connect, and as such (which was stated above) will also be needed for the server.cfg file on the line that starts with "ip *.*.*.*"

Please note.. It may say "ms_ip" or something like this... And will more than likely have something like "//" before it... Remove the "//" (it may be facing the other way but you will see what I mean) so that way you make it an active command instead of a remark

I think the ms_ip function is defunct and no longer required.

IP "x.x.x.x" does nothing, and never has - it's a read only var.

196.168 means you are behind a firewall or router... 100Mb connection also means you are certainly behind a router.

You will have to find the IP gateway for your particular computer, and open the ports on the router. You may also have to set it up so your computer's virtual IP is static, if this has not already been done.

Complete info on how to do this can be found at:
http://www.portforward.com/english/rout ... rindex.htm

You will need to open 27015-whatever port your server is on (27015-27016)

Yeah... helps when you don't post on the forum and guess your IP instead of taking the 5 seconds to right-click the toolbar icon... the port for dedicated is 27016, and apparently the network firewall I'm behind doesn't affect you :)

Just hope my 2.4 ghz 1gig ram is enough to handle whatever MS:C can throw at it with 6 people max :oldshock: (probably not)

EDIT: No more starting threads without research, I promise!

with 6 person max you'll be fine, I think more of it rests on your upload not your CPU
