Hiya all! Furion here with a fun little project that.. might be a lot of fun!
A Community Collaboration map!
-------------------------------------------------

How it works:
I'm going to upload a RMF, of a the empty rooms
A VIP set
A normal room set
and a Dungeon room set

I only have the Normal rooms built atm but I am working on the Dungeon now.

Partakers can take the template and build ANYWHERE within the room or hall and the quality of the rooms does not matter at all, just have fun with it. :p

There are some rules though.

Elaboration:
There are room files located under the Downloads Section, inside is a template of the room. (there will be two other sets of rooms but I haven't made them yet.( VIP)

The mappers simply make anything they want within the confines of the room I provided, sorta like a apartment.

Once done, add the RMF, MAP, any wads and custom files to a zip and send them to me via PM.

Rules:
-Keep it a medieval theme. ViPs can be a exception to this rule.

-Custom content is allowed (scripts, sounds, models, sprites, etc), But put all files in the folder guildhall. (e.g. sounds/guildhall/fur/sound.wav)

-Teleporters are allowed.

-ViP rooms are limited to devs.

-Rooms can have ANYTHING you want inside them

-Limit of 6 monsters per room.

-You can reserve up to two rooms. however they must be different types. (normal and dungeon)

Someone is probably going to flame me for this (for the wrong reasons no doubt) but I'm going to say this anyway:
Unless you make this map look significantly better, I don't want to have anything to do with it. Therefore I'd like you to remove the giant Blades of Urdual flag, unless you really improve the visuals tenfold.

Also, the point of the map isn't really clear to me. Is it a map where guilds are supposed to show off by having mappers (possibly from their own ranks) creating a guild room or set of rooms?
And what's the deal with the VIP thing? Who gets to decide who is a VIP or not? It all sounds like some terrible e-penis project to me. There's already e-penis items in-game by the way; They're called the Crest of Crow, the Crest of Barnum and the Jacket of Orochi.
And this room1_temp.rmf... The shape and texturing of that arch and the lack of door posts alone make me not want to ever touch this.

Please be less vague about what the whole idea is and I might get interested, at least :mrgreen:

Edit 1: And where does the name Alvion come from?
Edit 2: If I wanted a guild map by the way, I'd use all my skills and tricks and make one solely for BoU.
Edit 3: I do appreciate the effort though, but it's just too vague and not pretty enough.
Edit 4: Your template map (room1_temp.rmf) has two overlapping world brushes. Making something that doesn't look all too good (in my ever-humble opinion) is one thing, but distributing a template map with one of the most basic mapper errors one can even think of, is another.
Edit 5: Teleporters are THE way of saying, as a mapper:
"Hey guys, I am absolutely clueless as to how I'm supposed to make a neatly structured map. Therefore I created teleporters to bring people from A to B, because the concept of rooms and corridors is alien to me."
Teleporters are vastly overused in MS:C already and telling the e-penis peo... I mean VIPs that they can pretty much use them everywhere is just an all-around bad idea. Every mapper should just study the_keep and shad_palace and realize that a good, logical layout doesn't require twenty teleporters, but merely patience and planning.

The map is made for fun, and is still a HUGE WiP. Don't expect me to get it done in record time..

There is no real point and contains no lore except to have a map to hang out at and have fun.. since at the end of most runs everyone seems to sit around in the same map for more than 15 minutes at a time..

ViPs are for Devs, As stated in the OP..

And besides.. Who says we can't do something as a community? I just thought it would be fun.

The name Alvion came off the top of my head..

The template is purposely empty like that.. the mappers add furniture and details to their liking,

I didn't say you have to complete the map in a hurry. I just said that it has to look vastly better. Either that, or I, nor my guild, will be involved. That's all...

A map that displays mapping skill from many individuals, while at the same time being a place to hang out, sounds like a great idea. But, like I said, the 'mapping skill' part is kind of lacking in the images you posted and in the map you uploaded >.>

.. It's a WiP.. those images are like V0.1 (which is kinda what it's at still, I was just posting SOMETHING so people can get interested.

And I understand how annoying the teleporters are.. ViPs have larger rooms to build in compared to the normal rooms.. and also have more liberties to the rules.

I also apologize for the shoddy method of preventing leaks by overlapping brushes.. It never fails for me.. and I always used it.... I figured since brush faces are destroyed after compile it wouldn't be too much of an issue.

.. Now I'm going to bed since I've been working non-stop on this map thinking it would be a blast.. so I'm a "tad" sleepy

I'm glad to see someone is taking an interest in the community rather than criticizing everything little thing everyone does (J-M)

I won't be needing a room but thanks for the invite! I have *other* things planned right now...

People who can't take criticism are the bane of the world.

Therefore I welcome your post, Barnum, as it is criticism towards my criticism.

When I betatested dragooncaves with Furion, I told him in advance that I'm pretty ruthless in my comments and criticism. I even asked him if I should just leave before I'd start saying horrible things such as "This map does not look good." and such. He said "No." and never was a babby about my criticism. Next to that, I pretty much said, in this thread, that I'll participate if the map looks better. So what's the big deal anyway?

I love the concept(Even though I'm not in any guild.)! It's a great idea to bring the community together. A place to just hang out is great really. I remember ms_caves and isle were always the hangout spots before, but a map dedicated to such is an awesome idea. I applaud you! :D

Ye must learn the fine art of applying constructive criticism constructively, less it be relegated to the entertaining, but nonetheless the much less effective: destructive criticism, best left to web comics.

This will greatly improve the value of your criticism, both on-line, and in real life, where it will also aid in keeping the bridge of your nose intact. ;)
