Might want to actually provide a link to what you're talking about, instead of making people google to find your moddb page.

I hate to ask, but did you steal any of that content from MSC? I noticed the knight's helmet and the decorated helmet... maybe some other things as well. I'm not directly accusing you, because I'm not even sure if the MSC team got it from another mod.

Great mapping though! I tracked the mod

IOW: Got any models we can steal once your mod is dead and primed to be canabalized by the MSC dead-mod eating machine? ;)

Ya at first it was easier than making a new mesh... but if they really care ill delete it and make my own meshes. That knights helmet and dark helmet came from MS, not MSC also... remember their whole mod is a continuation of another. But yes you can call me guilty of putting their helmet on my soldier, and shield and longsword....

@Thothie --- good luck waiting for this to die... but if you really are interested I might "have/be able to make" some KILLER models for MSC, especially since some MS items adorn my mod's models. I once applied with my very first model and you turned me down (I'm not bitter that model sucked :oldlol: )... stuck with it and now I have become excellent. My priority is my project on Doom Hunt, but I have looked at your "models needed" a few times and could easily make some of those things. By no means do I want to be listed on the team.. but if your interested I could do some guest modeling. My secret to my mod is that I started working on it back while I was playing MS 1.35... and just waited a few years before ever posting it. So much unseen content...

Well, I while I won't personally get angry at anyone who nicks models from MSC given our own honor record (ie. total lack there of) - it might piss off one of our modelers. So check with them first.

Good luck with your mod... Though it seems to me this is not the time to be creating new HL1 mods - yer kinda obsolete before your mod's done.

Yes we keep thinking of source and then running away back to the safe canopy of goldsource. It will still be good, and I will check with your modelers... but I don't think anything else will be coming from MSC into Doom Hunt other than whats posted on moddb already so if they have any problems with that then have them PM me and ill change it. Thanks and good luck with your mod too

It would be an hypocrisy to spew a word about taking models.

Also big midle finger at Thothie for saying you should not mod on HL1 because its not the cool thing now.

I figured thats why I borrowed them.

Also Thothie is just trying to say HL is a little old... which is totally true. Doom Hunt will still be fun though, and a visual treat. Dont worry... it doesnt discourage me :p

:p @ FER.

Actually, a major concern is that the engine's days maybe numbered. Valve keeps tinkering with it, despite it being over a decade old, which always has odd side effects for mods... A great number of HL1 mods have just plain died to random changes, and MSC has had several narrow escapes. Hell, from what I'm reading right now, the Steam Community function is creating DOS attacks against its own HL1 servers - but not the Source mod servers. Go fig.

Yer also restricted by VS2003 or VS2005. VS2003 won't run on any of the newer windows OS's - so if XP dies, your mod more or less dies with it, putting it in double jeopardy. XP is still the most widely used Windows OS on the planet, by far, but it isn't in Microsoft's financial interest, nor that of the various RIAA media companies, for them to keep maintaining it that way, anymore than it is in Valve's not to force people to purchase Source engine games.

Guess the only hope is to pray that MS:S is able to kick something off before Gabe eats our baby, our precious MS:C.

Honestly, I think it's pretty lame to get upset with someone for 'stealing' your precious content. Not to mention self centered and egotistical. Nobody is making any profits off of this stuff.

Taking another persons ideas and reusing them in new and creative ways is not plagiarism. As a musician, I would be delighted if someone 'stole' my ideas and reused them to create something new. In the past, if one artist used the work of another artist it was considered a form of flattery. Today we have a bunch of babies clinging to their (often mediocre) 'intellectual property' as if it were the only thing they ever owned.

I assume the right to what ever I create and if people want to use my stuff, they have to ask for it and credit me (so then people in the future know where to go for the original). If they steal it, I won't go after them, but how hard is it to ask something as simple as "Can I use this for such and such?"

In the case of goldsource mapping I think it could be pretty hard to locate the artist in question, but for the most part I agree with you. Anyone who doesn't credit the original artist in some way is a complete dick. Contacting them isn't always possible but if it is, it's a nice gesture. Not only the asking for permission part, but it's also nice to know that someone admires your work enough to use it.

I just hate the idea that, if someone is going to create something, everything has to be done from scratch or it's 'cheating' or somehow not valid. I find that is a very common way of thinking, especially amongst non artists, and it's not really fair.

Musicians reusing other musicians' ideas is why most music nowadays is atrocious.

Forget self-centeredness and egotism, asking permission is just the done thing, whether you like it or not. :p

I do a lot more putting content together than I do creating original content, but if someone steals my OC without crediting, I don't much care, as I do this strictly as a hobby.

However, *some* folks are hoping to have careers working on video games or modeling someday, and it hurts those folk's careers and portfolios when you don't credit their work. Doubly so, if you credit it as your own. (Which is sadly, not uncommon.)

Again... Why I always ask when stealing models from mods - but tend to just skulk around when I'm "borrowing" from retail games. >_>

I do admit I get a little peeved when I get the occasional "no you can no haz!" answer, for some random material that no one else would ever have any use for ever again, but I just allow people their personality disorders and move on. Some folks are protective of their artwork to the point where no one else ever gets to see it, afterall.

Ok ok guys good discussion... now lets talk about Doom Hunt here lol
also Thothie: If valve tinkered with goldsource so much as to make its mods non functional, the ESF, Sven, MSC, and other communities would give them a hell storm, but then the question is: would they care?.

Sure they would! If they tinkered with it enough to make people angry enough to start a riot. You could make a killing selling pitchforks and torches. Granted they would all probably be to lazy to riot so.... Yea they wouldn't care?

If they broke mod support for the great mods like SC and NS, they probably would end up caring somehow or another.

They have before. The modders had to compensate, or folks had to make AMX plugins. Hell, there was two weeks in NS when no one could get in a comm chair without dumping the whole server after the protocol change. They've even created new bugs in their own HL1 retail games (DOD, CS, TFC) that they've yet to fix as a result of tampering with the underlying engine.
