Valor you sure just one year... and before that leave-of-absence how active were you (including past forums, should you go back so far)? Just wondering, since I noticed you have rather a low number of post for a one-year-old account... (albeit I had like three post for two years )
*Sigh* I knew someone was bound to ask something like this: I started in 2001 on the ezboard forums as TheKrusader145. Then, when it moved to the Daragoth one, I was under the name of Mardonius. I was beta tester and moderator, and I got permission from Evaan and other devs to go and pass out the beta since it seemed bug-free enough and it had good features. Gave it to Kuro, kILL, and a couple other guys in IRC. Then they decided to take the beta, which probably would have never been released to the public in any sort of official release, to a much higher and greater step (with permission from devs) that is MS:C. I didn't join this community until 05 because I had been bitten by the WoW bug, which took a good portion of 05 to right now today this second ongoing blahblahblah.
As for the name change, I was a member of Valor.
I had around 2k posts in the ezboard forums. I had maybe 1500 from the Daragoth forums (which continually wiped itself due to hackers and other random bull) and I have however many I have here.
Nah man. Once you get up to 5 years being in a certain community, you kind of stop looking at people as being noobs. We were all noobs once... though it's hard for me to remember how it felt to me then. Partly because MS was released close to 9/11.
i played the old ms... before magic and all that... n not being able to go up the stairs in edana correctly... and no edana sewers.... ahhh such a good time.... i think ima go find a download for it. OH AND RATS DROPED GOLD!!! lol
I've been around since this mod came to its first public release (and I mean first), Vampire Slayer's (back when there weren't that many hackers & dozens of filled servers used to exist), ESF, DMZ (which kicks esf's ass in the combo area & using of super attacks), and pretty much every other mod out there.
I used to wait on that X-Men mod, but it died...
(I have been a keen-observer of ALL mods since 1998 when Half-Life was announced as free-to-play-upon-buying-of-software-you-bedamned-nooblet
I suppose you could refer to me as the teenage elder of the mods for Half-Life; albeit in recent years (aka when Half-Life 2 & CS:S & DoD:S came out) I have lost touch in observing mods upon their birthings
EDIT:
Forgot to mention, I was a silent observer; back'n'th'day I hardly ever (if ever) posted on forums.
Hmm... back in the days... I used to watch so many mods back then... many of these mods are gone, never finished or abandoned after a while...
The Wastes
Gettysburg
Conflict in Nam
Destiny
... had promise, but were forgotten.
And then I remember playing DoD 1.3b on dod_omaha and dod_snowtown, staying down in the sewers because my Geforce 2 would keel over if I went up top to where the major fighting would be. I remember VS when they didn't have female characters and the G-Man and a very bald guy always went after you. I remember when PVK was a big hit, when everyone was running around as a sniper while I tried to impale them with my Viking spear. I remember BattleGrounds had minutemen who were equipped with the tomahawk... the homing-target tomahawk, a sure-kill.
I remember the day on which The Specialists v1.0 got released. As soon as I read "matrix-dives", I instantly downloaded it and played non-stop. It was awesome.
Team versus team bomb defuse battles in that tm_skyscraper map were the best fights ever. The infinite spawn killing at the spawn point of the team at the top of the building was also hilarious.
Too bad they removed that map from the official release, even though they fixed the spawn killing by adding a vulnerability delay on spawn
Man, those were the days. I'd love to play TS v1.0 on tm_skyscraper with about 30 other people again. That sh*t was awesome beyond limits.
I remember The Wastes, Conflict in Nam, Destiny, and as for Gettysburg I only saw the title when it came to; never viewed any of their work.
The Wastes was decent (since a public beta did come out for that game & for Conflict in Nam if I'm thinking the same ones as you), but nobody ever played online...
As for CiN, I remember it as a singleplayer game that was pretty damn fun
I don't think CiN was released. It's still being worked over for HL2. I think the Vietnam mod you were thinking about was ToD (Tour of Duty). It was pretty cool because it had rideable helicopters, but it was a little ugly. Had tripmines and stuff, though. <3 the RPG-7.
