Hosting a listen server is causing me stutters/frame freeze.

About every 6 seconds my screen will lock for a second or two. This only happens when I host a listen server (I can play on other servers fine). I've never had this problem before and the only thing that's changed since I last played is I upgraded my CPU and video card. I doubt the video card is the problem but the CPU is a quad core, I figured at first that MS:C wouldn't be very stable with a quad core, so I set my affinity to 2 cores, still no luck, 1 core, still no luck.

Edit: only seems to be happening once monsters have spawned. I tested on Ara and it was fine until I went round the first corner, initial huge freeze whilst things spawned and constant freezing every few seconds after that (even if I just stand there).

Edit2: The sound loops in these stutters too, which usually can mean memory problems. I did have to downgrade from 4gb to 2gb as two of the sticks died <_< Possible these two are dying too lol? Then again I play other games like Dragon Age and Global Agenda fine.

Huh, I swore it was doing it on other maps... Just appears to be Ara now. Maybe single affinity fixed it for other maps? I haven't played many yet but will post if I find any problems on different maps.

Gotta quad core myself, and don't have these issues, even with all four cores on the single job. No matter how you set the affinity, MSC is only going to use one core - it's just a matter of which core.

Is this an AMD CPU? ...and is this an nVidia graphics card?

Other maps so far have been working fine, Ara still freezes every few seconds o_o, it worked before.

Also, I've been playing through maps just to catch up on ones I've missed... I'm currently stuck on Thanatos, I just got outside where birds OBLITEREATED me. A gate won't open and I can still see birds flying around. No matter how hard I try, I can't hit them (even when an Orion Orb flies fully over them, their health bar flashes, no damage, no aggro). On note of those birds, they need nerfing. I had two of them attack me at once and I died in literal seconds, they were ice too so I couldn't do anything about it as they have major push back.

Trick is to have multiple players for them to target, or drag them back into the caves and beat them down one at a time. ;) Sadly, they've done very little to slow the folks speed running the level 35+ map down.

Thanatos really should be done with a group and plenty of resistance pots and trinkets. ;)

As with most of the new maps since the patch.

If the gate is triggered to the birds then I'm stuck. They must be above the sky limit. They're moving on a horizontal plane and can't be hit, they just random fly around but never up/down. Even with a crossbow and dwarven bolts, all I'm getting is their health bar to flash and no damage. *Shakes fist at the three remaining in the air*

My server just crashed as I was typing this... Steam verification error... Wut

They're too small and fast to use projectiles against really... Even Fire Ball can be a bit screwy, since they aren't on the ground. Need to get up close and personal with them, while trying to make sure it doesn't turn into a gang bang.

One of them isn't moving. I've tried every spell and projectile and all they do is hit it, flash the health bar and that's it... Either I'm too far away to do damage (exploit protection, idk?) or they're broken :p

What should I try if it happens again? Restarting or building a rat/skele ladder to reach them?

Oh, one buggard out on ye eh? Meh... Monsters bugger out sometimes, happens... Assuming its AI isn't dead, you might be able to get its attention by healing under it, or using a very generalized AOE projectile, like fireball, but odds are yer stuck restarting, as it's likely invulnerable in addition to brain dead in anycase.

Second'd. I believe it's what caused the problem last time. It's just like the old bird thing that flew around Edana back when MS was like first released. That thing always got stuck.

That bird tended to get stuck as it had no AI.

There are monster clips on the map to seal the birds in, but they are a bit too high, and agro flyers (such as eagles and horrors) are pretty monster-clip resistant. However, if you can hit the bird, and it doesn't come after you, something is broken beyond the monsterclip.

I noticed this issue too. There however is a monsterclip, I think the birds somehow got through.

Or a massive solid invisible block :p? Cloud density is so high, nothing can get through!

Actually my idea would be weird cos you'd make bullet/arrow marks in the sky.

probably the same thing I've been getting, except on a dedicated server. It's exactly like that on ww1, as soon as the monsters start spawning it starts lag spiking every 4-5 seconds.
