[Idea] updated ms_quest series? (hear me out)

Alright, the ms_quest series (by cyax)...for one, who makes maps as small as some of those? (swamp)

all in all, its not a bad area/theme for a map series...but the mapping is horrible...if someone who could do at least a little mapping would just walk around the maps, figure out what goes where, perhaps think up some new designs for some of them...i'm sure they would turn out fairly well...

however, i've no time for such activities...what with making my maps and all


what do the rest of you think?

Though with the maps Thothie just put out for us to work on, I think all avialable mappers will be busy for a while

Squirrel = foutpost/bloodrose
Avoozl = ms_snow/verath


etc, only we could make it to where each mapper gets thier own post on the thread, that they edit whenever they change something, or when they feel like it

maybe it could even get stickied

Yea, ima make a thread here soon with details on my progress on which ever map(s) I choose to sex up that thothie posted about.

My personal project is going rather slow, because I thrive on interaction with the public, and keeping it under wraps makes that kinda hard

Hopefully this will help.

Plus im taking a healthy break from the WoW, so I'll actually have time for this

A post, or even better, a forum! We could have a whole forum for content that we customize! Then we can make our own threads and manage them!

I have to repeatedly have a little team of dwarves come clean up all the drool on the dungeon floors of my server whenever anyone mentions a pending new map from Crow.

Cyax *did* start making a new MS_QUEST series, but never finished it. I'm not sure what happened to him... I *think* he had his own webpage with maps and contact info... You'll have to ask J-M about that, he would know more (and possibly have semi-completed maps).

The full story of Cyax' ms_quest series:

It all started many years ago, with four MasterSword v1.3 maps made by Cyax: ms_quest, ms_caves, ms_swamp and ms_town.

ms_quest: a small open field surrounded by cliffs with one house and a small cave network below. Has transitions to Edana, ms_caves and ms_swamp.

ms_caves: a cave network with a big spider that had to be beaten to get to a treasure chest. Has a transition to ms_quest.

ms_swamp: a very crappy looking swamp with some skeletons and a near-impossible to find secret area with four treasure chests. Has transitions to ms_quest, ms_wyrm (never made) and ms_town.

ms_town: a town map with a few secret areas. Has transitions to ms_swamp and ms_tower (never made).

About a year (or two) ago, Cyax decided he'd remake the ms_quest series and name them m2_quest ( http://www.freewebs.com/m2quest ). The m2_quest world would look like this:

This picture can be found on Cyax' m2_quest site which I just linked to. Yes, I know, m2_caves is not displayed on this picture.

As you can see, Cyax would finally make ms_tower (but he would have called it m2_tower). However, Cyax didn't have plans anymore for m2_wyrm. However, he was planning four completely new maps: m2_depths, m2_demonic, m2_forest and m2_barrens.

Cyax never finished any of the maps. However, I was his betatester. I have the source files for m2_town, m2_quest and m2_depths and test compiles for m2_quest and m2_depths.

From what I remember, m2_depths was pretty awesome, and m2_quest was pretty sexed up (but an issue popped up that prevented the map from loading). Unfortunately, m2_town also suffered from an unknown problem.

Anyway, if my remake/sex-up of the Wicardoven goes well, I will try to remake Cyax never-finished m2_quest series and call it: msc_quest.

Edit: I just found info on another map on Cyax' m2_quest website. This map is also not on the image, but apparently he was going to call it m2_ruins.

So that makes a total of ten maps:
m2_quest (remake of ms_quest)
m2_caves (remake of ms_caves)
m2_swamp (remake of ms_swamp)
m2_town (remake of ms_town)
m2_tower (map that was originally planned, but never made)
m2_depths
m2_demonic
m2_barrens
m2_forest
m2_ruins
