Does the MS:C community have any use for composers right now? I have been wanting to write music games for some time and if any mappers out there want music written for a map I am interested in taking on the challenge. I already have some potentially usable content and fragments of content complete if anyone is interested.

Any talents you can bring to the table to help the mod are most welcome. I know Thraxis wrote some music for the game, and not having to listen to the same music on different maps is always a plus.

Please, write anything you like and pose it to the community, i'm sure it would find a home.

Fantastic. I'll post a few samples now and see where it goes from there.

Since MS:C is a video game the first thing I will post is a loop-able arrangement of a theme from a Zelda game. I have never played any Zelda games before however, and I took this on request from a friend. The prominent melody in the oboe is from Zelda. The smaller melody in the french horn is mine, along with everything else. It may be possible in the future to not loop this and give it more content.

Here is a small happy sounding thing I wrote for a friend some time ago. For some reason this file is extra quiet. You may need to turn up your volume to even hear parts of it at all. I was unable to fix this correctly in the program I used to compose it.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130562668/6 ... in_Bb.html

This is another small piece. I am afraid it may be more monotonous than is tasteful.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130563090/5 ... a_min.html

Another simple piece of music

http://www.4shared.com/file/123906785/f ... in_Ab.html

This is actually not a rondo, although I would like to someday turn it into one. It's just a small unfinished idea for now. It reminds me of port towns and the ocean.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130559335/f ... Rondo.html

This is a decent melody for a harpsichord. I would be interested in completing it if a mapper could create an appropriate context.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130563309/f ... ude_2.html

This is a very short idea. I was trying to create an 'enchanted forest' kind of atmosphere. I think it would go well in an Elven Forest or village kind of setting.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130560401/e ... orest.html

From here on the music I will be posting will be mostly short simple pieces for one piano.

This is a nice little loop-able melody that I could possibly lengthen into something more developed.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130559800/a ... Major.html

This is just a small musical idea. I would like to add a second and possibly third section to this someday. It is cheerful.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130563533/3 ... terri.html

A small waltz that reminds my friend of hot air balloons.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130560951/9 ... oons_.html

Another small waltz. This one isn't as good as the former.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130561109/5 ... Waltz.html

This disjointed piece of music is definitely in it's prototype stages (with that abrupt first section) but there is content here I like. I don't know if it fits MS:C at all but you never know.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130564213/9 ... _edit.html

This piece is in the same boat as the one before it. Disjointed and unfinished.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130563879/b ... elude.html

And this is a lullaby that is not finished.

http://www.4shared.com/file/130562114/2 ... llaby.html

I know that is quite a bit of music to post all at once on a forum. I don't actually expect anybody to listen to all of it. However, if anyone is interested in collaborating with me at all please at least browse this selection briefly.

I downloaded this and I must say, this is quite good. Makes me imagine a peaceful, yet very old and partially decayed village. It has some happiness and peacefulness to it, with a hint of sadness.

Anyway that's what I think. I would definitely like to hear this ingame. :p

Thank you for listening. I have been toying with the idea of a map to go with this but I have no mapping skills. I'd like to see a forest type map with an Elf village in the center. The farther into the forest you go the harder the enemies would get so that high level players could play on the same map as mids and lows and not be bored. When you reached the peaceful village in the center a finished version of this music would play.

MSC's not had an official composer since Lanethan setup the original music score.

As I've said elsewhere (and as you've evidently read, judging by the necroposts) what we need most is more action oriented music, as we've plenty of gentle medieval village and haunted forest types.

We *do* actually have event-driven music now, to a degree. A few of the maps take advantage of it (such as old_helena, where the music changes on the later and final waves). Also, plenty of maps have music triggers near boss chambers and the like (Bloodrose has a particularly well done and appropriate one.)

PS. MP3's would be preferable to WAV's - for download time, in addition to game compatibility. :)

PPS. I'm not the grammar Nazi around here, but we need less original spellings of the word "original" - this is the third thread in a row I've come across today with yet another take on the word. ;)

There's already several bits of music in the game that were not originally (double checks spelling) sound tracks.

This music reminds me of the old final fantasy games, some parts are similiar. Also it's reminding me of something else, i dont know what but i have to figure it out deeply

Thank you for listening, Zeus.

I wrote another small piece over the course of a few days. It's a sonatina for solo piano. It kind of reminds me of cavern music but I don't know if it is usable in MSC because it's only one piano. An arrangement might be possible is someone ever needs this type of music.

Any chance of layering some more instruments on these?

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, I just purchased this http://www.eastwestsamples.com/details. ... index=1128 and it should be arriving in a few days. Check out the symphonic choirs, if you are interested. I can hardly tell a difference between a real choir and these samples. Plus it will allow me to type lyrics and have them sung back to me.

So yeah, I will definitely add to any of these pieces if you have a use for them. Just tell me what piece you want used, and what instrumentation you want used for it and I will do my best to make that happen.

Dang, it sounds so good has it is already! You should add some more extra instruments if possible to the music, it would probably spice it up even more. My instrument suggestion would be a mix of piano and violin (not sure if its spelled like this), i say this because i seen recent musics in some games that included background violin sounds that were amazing like the well known Halo game. The music is good has it is but like i said you should try adding some more instruments to it

btw im not so good when talking about music, i was good at doing music when i was a kid and i gave up music like 9 or so years ago, can't remember much stuff but i think its a positive comment and some good ideas if you get my point xD

Also, keep it up!

If you have more free time you might want to check up with Ms:s, we are getting close to a first release and could use some music.

I wrote a new piece today. Many hours of being disconnected from the internet produced it. I can't decide if I like it or not. Maybe it just needs cleaning up or something, I don't know. Don't be surprised if it gets edited some day. Either way, MSC or MSS is welcome to use it, provided you tell me what it is being used for. I don't really see it fitting the game, though.

Anyhow, here it is

http://www.4shared.com/file/173147614/4 ... minor.html

Anyone who has listened to anything else in this thread will notice a marked increase in sound quality. I bought new sound samples (spent over $1000 on them actually), so that is why. I'm going to post another version of this same tune, only with a different instrumentation (a synthesizer hodgepodge) to illustrate some of what this new sample set is capable of.

If we were doing a psychological horror, or detective noire style game, that'd be great, but in MSC, we don't have much use for tracks that delicate and simple.

What we need more of are rolling-battle style sound tracks, with a medieval fantasy edge to them, epic, and multi-layered, like so:
http://www.thothie.com/msc_dev3/more_leik.rar

That one involved about $300 of equipment for Edgen to put together, discounting the computer and the pirated voyetra. ;)

I have managed to find some compositions that I believed to be lost forever in my email archives. One of them I was especially sad about 'losing'. I don't know if MSC has any use for it, as it is absolutely nothing like what thothie asked for. It would have to be used in a peaceful scenario. It loops easily, though.

http://www.4shared.com/file/214836841/5 ... _King.html

I also improved big time on the last composition I posted that was rejected (and for obvious reasons). It still is completely unfit for MSC, but I'll post it on the off chance that someone has a use for it/someone likes listening to it.

http://www.4shared.com/file/178446420/8 ... minor.html

However, the real tragedy is that I am looking through my archives for something specific that fits thothies criterion to a degree. However, It appears to be lost for good.
http://www.4shared.com/file/214861283/4 ... piano.html
This is a fragment of it from before it was completed. The finished product grew in intensity as it progressed and in my opinion was quite energetic. It was roughly triple the length of that fragment. Luckily, I still have some people to harass about this file once people start waking up. I may yet be able to find the finished version.

Nocturne in B minor was very good! Very relaxing. I think it would work for a map like Edana, or some other town map.
