..to (hopefully) be hired on to the Geek Squad. The guy sounded like he was going to hire me when we spoke on the phone, but I'll know for sure tomorrow. :D

Yes, after actually noticing it, I would guess that too...

Maybe I should just change my first post to read "+1" and naturally blame it on the Irish.

(Don't get offended, I am Irish)

Yeah, MiB must be psychic or something. :oldlol:

I actually live in a really cool spot in Indianapolis. I'm blocks from the Speedway (even if you don't follow racing, you've probably heard of the Indy 500), minutes from downtown (football statiums, zoo, etc), and within like 5 minutes from about 3 gamestops. Despite all of this, theres never anything to do, though, and traffic gets horrible around my apartment during the race every year.

I'm pretty excited about the interview. I don't really have any doubts about me getting hired. I'm just happy I might actually get a job doing something I enjoy doing.

rofl..yes, it is a very crappy tech support squad. I've only seen them in Best Buys, so I'm guessing its a part of that.

They only really hire people with experience working on computers, and maybe just an A+ certification. I've heard they don't usually hire people with degrees and a lot of experience. They charge people out the ass to repair their computers, and nobody really likes them. I would never take my computer to them. Mostly because I can fix whatever goes wrong myself, but also just because they charge out the ass for simple repairs. Someone told me the Geek Squad charged them something like $250 to reformat the hard drive on their computer.

Why am I getting this job? It'll look good as experience on my resume when I graduate, and they pay better than anything else I can find right now. You usually need 2-3 years of experience to get a good tech job, so this will be my few years of mediocre work to get that experience.

*edit* Oh, and I don't know anything yet. Interview isn't for another 2 hours.

it can't be helped they will hire anything that moves.

speaking of which I will be joining them ranks in geek squad shortly myself. Although I am already looking for a new job, corporate life just isn't my style.

*edit*
just so you know, Best buy/geek squad makes you go through 3 interview before you find out if your hired or not. Thats if it works like the ones in my area.

That's ok, you don't have to kill me, I have the proper clearance.

Its true, he does. I've seen the badge.

The interview went alright. He said he'd call me at the beginning of next week to tell me when the second interview was. I'm not really sure if I'm going to go, though. From what he told me, you pretty much do EVERYTHING you can to charge the people more money. Upgrade RAM, hard drives, software, etc to raise the amount they owe you. He said its like 80% customer interaction, 20% actually repairing computers. He said that most of the computers that come in go directly to the Service center, not the Geek Squad. So pretty much what I'll do is take the computer from the customer, "find out about them, what they use the computer for, how many people use it, etc" and then try to sell them other shit based on what they tell me. I'm not too sure if it'll look good as experience or not. I've got a few days to think about it, though, I guess.

If it conflicts with your morals then don't do it. It is all about making the buck, and that is what most business' objectives are. I would take the job, and make the money. Then again, I don't listen to that little nagging voice in my head that tells me what I am doing is wrong.

sounds like your best buy put a more negative spin on it, mine made it off like they where performing a grand service for there customers, that they where losing money on every computer they sold and that they needed to sell the Geek Squad stuff so they can make positive profits.

Hopefully this new job I just got an interview will go well, its like my dream job! Building, fixing, and dismantling old computers for resale.
