My turn to ask a stupid question!

I'm gonna be out a lot, and I'll have my laptop with me, and I'm *hoping* to sneak in some time testing MS:C - but I'll be in the middle of nowhere, with no net. *gasp*

I've installed MSC on my laptop. It let me play in off-line mode the *first* time, but now every time I try to do it, it throws a temper tantrum about not being able to contact the Steam Auth server (even though I'm in freaking off-line mode).

Probably related to the fact when I type "map edana" (or whatnot) in console, it launches a server. Unlike most other games that go into single player dev mode, and stay off-line.

So... Any advice for getting the bloody thing to let me start a map in off-line mode, so I can test this thing on the road? Seems script debugging takes at least 5x as long as creation does.

PS. Hopefully someone can give me a hint before I'm in the middle of no where... Maybe I'll pass a wi-fi spot and check in.

You could try to launch a server with sv_cheats 1 (set that in listenserver.cfg), maybe that'll give you access to developer commands such as wireframe and others.

I wouldn't think so, as there seems to be no way to get into true-single player mode... But I just need it to start *period* - nvm the developer, bloody thing just keeps trying to auth with the Steam server.

You are here --> X
There's a little thing called sv_lan which need to be set at 1 when you do not want to contact the internet servers :wink:

my steam doesn't work in offline mode. Period.

i try to start a game, and it TRIES TO UPDATE. even 3rd perty games, it tries to update hl1 or hl2...and i also can't log into a different account, when i try it just boots me out of steam and wont let me back in until i connect to the internet...

i know that because i just got back from a little "mini-vacation" which lasted about 5-6 days...so instead of being able to play steam games i played Zelda and battlefield 2 :D

I find offline mode a big pain, you need online mode to get offline to work. What you need to do is log in normally for online mode double check everything is updated modify the files and what not.

Close steam unplug and log in again, select offline and it should work, this is never guarenteed, steam just hates offline mode.

That may sound stupid, but what if you just install an old CD version of half-life? I mean without steam. Maybe you'd need the updates anyway...but still, if you could just take your half-life folder and try to run it without steam, it may be worth a try!

Was on the road most of the day today, so didn't get a chance to try (woulda been awkward, ELI Suspension or neigh, best I could do was type - although it maybe just my lack of shut eye), although I did manage to put together three new item scripts for ya: holy arrows, greater holy arrows, and Fire Gauntlets, that *should* work - based on sound, tested principles (insomuch as MSC has any such thing). Nice thing about this camp, is it has t3h wi-fi (w00t!) - but I may not get a shot at anything tonight - my alien kidnapper is realing in the leash - plus it's feeding time for the prisoner (poison via grilled filet minion!) - maybe in the morn.

Just thought I'd mention this... While the sv_lan did work for awhile, it stopped working one day... This didn't seem to be a fault of MSC, but that of Steam.

...I'd get Steam up in off-line mode, and I'd try to launch MSC and it'd say "Cannot complete this task in Offline Mode.", to which I said "fuck you!" - to which Steam, as per usual, replied the same.

This is among the reasons I'm behind on the scriptiig to be done before I switch to hard code: between that crap, and the aliens demanding to be probed, I didn't get any testing done, just scripts.
