About a week or maybe even two weeks ago my dog started to get sick, just all of a sudden. He started breathing heavily and stuff, not eating, drinking water. We took him to the vet and he had a low red blood cell count and a high white blood cell count. He gave him some shots and said to bring him back if it got worse. He was okay for maybe two days... till today. He threw up in the morning, none of his food was digested, and while asleep he had... made a mess on the floor, and didn't even get up, that's how bad it is. The vet said it's either a tumor or an immune disorder. This dog was my BEST friend and I've had him for nine years. We might have to put him down because the treatments are too expensive and aren't long term or might not even work at all.

If anyone has experience with this, I'd like to know what to do. It's not looking good.. please show your support for him, especially if it may be his last few days. :oldcry:

I feel really bad for what you and your dog are going trough.

I havent gone trough this yet but my only suggestion would be to take him to another vet, just to have a second sight of things.

Well I remember my old dog and how she got sick. Eventually we had to have a vet come to us and put her down. We then buried her in the back yard in one of her favourite blankets. One thing I do regret is not spending lots of time with her when she was on her last days.

Thus if you think that your dog isn't going to last much longer, I would recommend that you spend as much time with him as possible. If he's going to go, it will be much better if his last days are filled with love and happiness. If he expires, just don't blame yourself for it and remember that nothing lives forever. I wish you luck Rilez and hope everything turns out good for you.

My dog recently died due to cancer. She was 17 years old, and the vet said she was the oldest living basset hound he had ever seen. I'm 22, so you can imagine how I felt, I can barely even remember a time in my life without that dog.

I'm sorry, that's a terrible thing to have happen.

Went through somewhat of a similar situation. I never have had a memory without the dog in my house. After years of bad arthritis and just getting old we had to put her down.

As FER said go check out another vet if possible. If it's still the same then as previously suggest just spend time with the dog. It's rough to let go of something that's always been there, but if he is in noticeable anguish then maybe considered having it put down for his own sake.

Best way to get it out any pent up emotion is to just talk about it most of the time, so find a good friend with a good ear and just talk it off and hope they understand.

they're taking the dog to another vet out of town today, so he can be checked for tumors.

If he has cancer, we have to put him down. :(

If they don't find any tumors however, it's an immune disorder, which they will try to give him shots for.

The doctor said there is a very slim chance to none that he might just be really sick, and if that is the case (which is really unlikely) then the shots will cure him, and he'll live.

look on the bright side of life

I know how you feel, been there a couple of times with some cats, the most recent one was quite hard for me. I picked up my dieing cat that got hit by a car, rushed it to the vet as quick as possible in hopes of saving. However her entire rear was crushed, basically was nothing more than cut mush on the inside. The whole thing wouldn't have been so bad except there was a white cat skid mark on the street.

Just be glad you can put pets to sleep. You can't do that with people. When your granfolks start dieing you'll wish to hell you could give them that dignity.

Oregon allows euthanasia? :oldshock:

Dyam, I thought I was moving to Japan to get that basic human right back - didn't realize you could still get it in the states.

its in a limited matter, and is still under constant attack to get removed, but it can be used if a person is not going to live much longer or will forever be in constant unbearable pain. You are allowed the right to OD on a specific doctor prescribed drug.
