Here.

Name five(5) of your favorite music personalities(band, solo artist, composer, etc.) here. Also, provide the best classification of genre, and a sample of listening (eg, a YouTube music video) so we can perhaps look at what you enjoy listening to whilst doing whatever. I don't think we've had a music thread before, so let's be civil and keep it as only one, without a lock ;)

(This is NOT a place to say OMG UR BANDS ARE TEH SUX AND THIS BAND RULEZ place.)

Some of my favorites:
-Gackt(JRock[Japanese; says Rock but he's kinda broad spectrum]): This guy plays almost everything, and has good vocal range to boot(Crazy Asians). His stuff is kinda angst-y, but that doesn't matter. His backup band has a dedicated vioinist too, which owns. i serious.
Sample

-Ben Folds (Piano rock[Think Elton John]): Very 'quirky;' explores various emotions, and is an excellent stage personality in my opinion; somehow manages to be able to cover a Dr. Dre(If I recall correctly) song on piano.
Sample

-Tchaikovsky("Classical"[Forgot what actual musical period]): This guy did the famous 1812 Overture, which made it's way into V for Vendetta(in some form).

-Geto Boys(Real Rap/Hip-Hop): Don't judge me. (If you saw Office Space, the printer scene is done with their song "Still"[If you like actual rap, these guys are a must(One of them is regarded as one of the best, under Tupac)

-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers(Classic Rock): Grew up on this, essentially. Can't really describe it unless you're familiar with classic rock.

Honorable Mentions:
Didn't list these up there cause I'm just kinda getting into them/only can list five in detail
DJ Tiesto
Modest Mouse
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Your turns :D

I'll go put up some links to my other favorites, but to start with, here's...

Ian Hunter - You may recognize him as the writer/original performer of Cleveland Rocks. Not my favorite of his, but still a good song. He's mostly rock, though lighter. Here's an example of his work: Michael Picasso. It's a softer song about the death of his best friend and guitarist Mick Ronson. This is from his live CD "Strings Attached". Normally he doesn't use strings.. but it certainly made the song sound beautiful, in my opinion.

John Hiatt - My dad has been pounding Hiatt into my brain since before I remember. He's Country/Rock (mostly rock), and has been producing music for longer than most of us have been alive ;-) Here's the title track from his latest CD, Master of Disaster

Stephen Lynch - Singing Comedian. Most of you likely already know Lynch. If you ever listen to a recording of his, try to make sure it's live. His studio recordings weren't as good. Superhero

Echo and the Bunnymen - If you're a Donnie Darko fan, you'll most likely know Echo, but I have the feeling they're too obscure for most others. This is one of my brother's favorite bands, and he passed it to me. Sleep Tonight (CD: Short For the Sky)

Noteworthy, but not favorites:
GLaDOS
Tom Smith (song: Cthulhu Lite FM)
My Chemical Romance
Green Day

haha

Tom Lehrer - quite old, most of his songs where during the 40's
Freezepop - synthesis pop band
Flogging molly - Irish music
yoshida brothers - them guys got skills with the Japanese banjo thingy (don't know real name)

Thats about it for me, I could have added more detail but that requires effort I don't want to put forward.

hmm sounds interesting, reminds me of TM Revolution. However just like TM its nothing like yoshida brothers its truely old school Japanese music http://www.domo.com/yoshidabrothers/

I suggest clicking modern its some very unique sounds, the others are good as well. However this one showcases there skills quite nicely.

You are here --> X
The Doors, because I love their music and it makes me relax.
Snoop Dogg, because his songs have a nice beat.
Sir Mix-a-lot, because his song about big butts (Baby got back) made me rofl.
Günther Pleasureman, because his song called Ding Dong Song made me rofl.

Last, but not least, there's this chiptune which I enjoy. I have no idea of who made it, all I know is that I found it in a game trainer for some Starwars game. Listen.

EDIT: Fixed the link to the chiptune.

Nooooo! Not Günther! That dude is seriously retarded.
Although I must admit that I listened to that song a few times, as well as "Tiny Weeny String Bikini" (or whatever that other song of him is called)

AHHHHHHH!!! FINALLY! EINE MUSIK "THREAD"!!

Hehe, Queens of the Stone Age-pretty much anything by them. There are only a few select songs that I dislike. Misfit Love off of their latest CD is the absolute shiznit, I reccomend that to any rock fans or anyone who just likes to dance!

LINKY!

Rage Against the Machine-Metal/rap/funk/MOVEment music. For those with issues with our current society. I'm not gonna bother with a link, just look 'em up using the MySpace page you've already opened :)

Nine Inch Nails-Metal/techno/rave-ness. March of the Pigs will make you. Hurt is good for a good cry too, right Vomica? :DDDD

Third Eye Blind-Mmmmm, classic 90's rock. Jumper, Thousand Julys, and most definitely Semi-Charmed Life. Ya'know, that song the radio played over and over and over and over again.

And I have a million bands tied for fifth because I just can't decide. I will suggest a lil known crack-rock band called INDK. They also have a large MySpace following despite their anonymity.

Run for the hills! Its time for me to post a lil' about what I listen too!

Nightwish
a Finnish symphonic power metal group. Pretty much the only thing I have on my MP3 player right now.

Link One
Link <-- that one is an actual MP3

Daft Punk
House/Techno. These two guys are great, and its hilarious because they never show their faces during interviews or performances.

Link

Gorillaz
Alternative rock/Alternative hip hop/Pop/Electronica/Trip rock. Hah, yeah I like gorillaz, even if they are just an animated band.

Link

(more later...need sleep....)

DETHKLOK RULEZ!!!

(Funny as hell, that show)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cih1tSlj2DM

Even funnier is that their album is the all time best seller in that genre of metal.

Haha, Metalacolypse is a damn funny show. The music is pretty good when you take into account its not really a band. Heard they are gonna go on tour soon, no idea how thats gonna happen.

Metalacolypse is one of the only 2 things I'll still watch on [as]. Seen every Futurama atleast half a dozen times, only other good show is Tim and Eric (Awesome Show GJ or Tom goes to the Mayor).

Watch the Boondocks...Especially if you think the combination of Samuel L. Jackson and Charlie Murphy is indeed epic...

Oh, another JRock band which you anime fans are more familiar with:
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Do you know what that means? So many kids go around singing that and they don't know what it means.

Superman
verb

Superman; When you are mad at your girl for not having sex with you. So when she falls asleep you masturbate and cum on her back. After that, stick the bed sheet on to her back and when she wakes up it's stuck to the cum and she has a cape like Superman!!!

"Yo, dawg, Last night my bitch was being frothy so I have her a Superman"

1. Dream Theater (Also, side projects from members such as Liquid Tension Experiment, OSI, and Rudess and Petrucci's solo works).
Progressive Metal. Mix pink floyd, Rush, hints of beatles and Heavier stuff such as Metallica, ACDC. IMO some of the most talented guys on any of the instruments to have lived.

2. Gorillaz (Described in a previous post). I'm about 50/50 on their stuff. Either I like it or I don't. Clint Eastwood, 19-2000, Dare, Every Planet we Reach is Dead, Dracula and Feel Good Inc. are among some of their songs that I really enjoy.

3. Daft Punk (Described in a previous post). Even though it's House/Techno I find these guys to be among the most musically talented electronica groups. They understand theory and have a good sense of musicianship. It isn't just quarter note bass drums throughout the song mixed with samples over and over (no offense to those who like that, just isn't my thing).

4.Dethklok (Described). Just funny and good stuff. Surprised the guy behind this made the Home Movies show on adult swim. Just seems like such a different world. (Also if they do tour it most likely would be the guys who contributed to the show/ guys from the Death Album and not so much Dethklok itself, but who knows).

5. Amon Amorth - Viking Metal. When my friend gave this to me after I told him that Viking metal is usually hardly the viking lifestyle, well the band changed my mind. Described to me as "If you are a viking, this band pretty much tells your story". I don't listen to em too much, but it's great driving music. Oddly enough, their notation usually implies happiness while their song could be about a guy in a boat dying.
