I just joined MS:C a few weeks ago so if the suggestion has already been made don't yell at me.

- Add a Quest Log to the game to keep track of which quests you are doing.
- Fix the grammar errors.
- Maybe add a new font for text? More of a RP feel.
- Add Detail Textures?

And heres a list of bugs because I'm too lazy to go get my Steam id. Status in console = No.

- When your using a Training Hammer, your arm is made of pure light, but your hand stays skin.
- Sometimes, you can get stuck inside a Monster either from respawing or from the Monster attacking you.
- In the Thornlands, near sfor, Wild Boars and Giant Rats can get stuck in some of the trees there.
- If you double click your character when choosing, you lose almost half or all your equipment and items. Even gold.
- The Male and Female models look the same. o.o
- If your wearing a suit of armor, the pants look as if they are coming out of the platelegs.

If you see a problem with a suggestion or bug, flame away.

First off, welcome to the community.

Everything you've said has been suggested already. Many of them have been around for a while and are being worked on.
Also, all those bugs have been stated already, as well. Armor bug has been fixed, double click bug... Just don't double click. Ever. If you do, rejoin or risk screwing your character up. Male/female difference is mainly because we don't have a female model, and because it would require redoing all the armor to make way for bewbs(note on this: any new armor models us modelers make should include a second female-endowed model). I THINK we fixed the problem of not being able to use a female model along with the armor fix, though I'm not entirely sure(could be a different fix, could be not fixed at all).

Though I've not heard of getting stuck inside a monster from simply attacking it(though there are monsters that'll pass through you and you'll be stuck until they've left your area), it's common to be stuck inside a monster or other player when spawning/they spawn. Simply say "/stuck" to fix this. The boars and rats getting stuck... Ah, just a minor bug. It's probably a simple fix, but there are more important things to be fixed at this time.

Being new doesn't mean you can't use the search button ;)

P.S. Should you find an exploit and wish to report it(please do, there are enough people who don't), you MUST use the report button on the main site, or PM Thothie or Man In Black. If you post it on the forums for all to see, that is grounds for FN punishment.

I have recently changed the trackerscheme.res a bit to use a font called Lucida Blackletter which looks far more "medievalish". Here's an example of what it looks like in the titlescreen:

This seems to be depending on your system, because I don't have that problem, though my friend does.

ok but im talking as a main weapon type... you shouldnt have to choose from sword, axe, ect... just to specialize in martial arts... also you dont even get a low lvl set of gaunts till you get to helena and have enough cash to buy them. thats IF the merchant has them.

'Would love to rig it so the player just started with every basic weapon, to get this 'specializing' thing out of people's heads... Issue being he wouldn't be able to move, and wouldn't be particularly motivated to deal with the brief buying/selling grind quests in Edana.

I should also point out we DID update the menu theme once already - it used to use the same text and color scheme as Half-Life (ie. military green backing + orange arial bold text). However, some bits default to VGUI graphic fonts instead of True Type depending on your resolution and configuration, and those require more artwork to edit. Some fonts you don't wanna mess with though, as it'll screw some displays up wildly.

Most of the rest is covered in "known bugs".

I'm just curious as to why specialization is a bad thing? Aside from the fact that entire game would need an overhaul in order to balance for specialization, given that a large portion of the harder maps are balanced off the 'superman' mentality, specialization would require more cohesive teamwork. To make it clear I don't actually expect MS:C to go through these changes.

Why are there even titles for specialization? I mean, if someone made a Caster focus it would be just as well to make the title "ERROR: Does not compute." due largely to the fact that a caster focus, even with a full server of tanks to help would die instantly in a large number maps regardless of the level of said caster focus - not counting the fact that he could carry hide armor, helmet, and backpack before being dangerously close to weight limit.

Basically in order to survive the late-game content you need to be every class, as well as everyone else in the party. Mage-Thief-Healer-Warrior-Barbarian-Archer-Monk, aka demi-god - multiple demi-gods, in order to survive and triumph, and in theory if each person was a single class, it would take a team of people to do what, in the current system, one person can do by his lonesome. The non-class system allows for great customization yes, multiclassing is viable, but there's no downside other than the fact it takes longer to level, nevermind the fact you need to omni-class to survive.

The 2-skill title system is perfect for a dual-class specialization, a major set, and a minor set, can even go as far as 3 skills, not counting parry, since that's universal. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents. I'm a lurker by trade, but every so often something comes up that I feel I can discuss.

No, no, no... Don't get me wrong... Specialization, as a general concept, is not bad, quite the contrary.

Specialization, in MSC, is VERY bad, at least under the current system.

All an unusual title means in MSC, at the moment, is that you deliberately nerfed your character, and are a useless waif of a wretch compared to a generalist of the same level. What's worse, if you went for a MA, SC, or Archery title, or combination there of, you probably took a lot longer to reach said level than the generalist.

Even if it worked as the current title system gives the illusion it does - the system has no function. Specializing in a weapon, with the exception of magic and archery (and may the gods help you if you specialize in either of those), does not change your function within the group or the game. All other weapon "classes" just run up and hit things until they die.

This is counter-intuitive vs. most other MORPG's, so I'd like some more hints to discourage attempting to specialize, to clue new players in that they, indeed, should avoid it, and train in as broad a range as they possibly can, until we have a true specialization system.

A real specialization system has function. Each class has it's own purpose. Usually these are divided into AOE/DOT, Buffs/Aid, Defense/Meat Shield, and Offense - which has been the standard dating all the way back to when Gary Gygax wrote up D&D in the 1970's (Wizard, Cleric, Fighter, Thief). I'd hope to eventually have a title system that MEANS something, and defines your class, not by what weapon you have in your hand, but by what you do with it. (Ala the oft linked Chart of Dreams - containing a list of Titles you can acquire through various NPCs, that actually have purpose, instead of restricting you to a single line of weaponry for no real reason.)

Ahh, I see, I see.

That was a most excellent assessment, and clears up a few foggy areas. It's still a bit deflating, despite the archetypal class roles being used so much, there's still alot of charm involved in finding your niche as far as your role in a party, and where you fit in best.

But I look forward to this title system, if ever it is implemented. I just hope as the name implies Chart of Dreams won't just be a pipedream. The % buff and debuff depending on what route you choose is excellent. I had dwelled upon such things as primary choice would be max damage, default exp inflation, and a secondary choice having a damage knockoff, or a higher exp inflation so it takes longer to level, but the tree there is very well thought out given the implications of one choice affecting other possible abilities with +/- on percentile.

I'd love to see something of the chart work it's way into Master Sword, creates alot of dynamic and inter-functionary co-operation.

Well, you can't see it in the chart, but I did relent to the Jack-of-all-trades type players via the Generalist classes in the center. The idea behind those was as long as you kept all your stats within 5 (and later 3) points of each other, and purchased the titles, you'd get an experience or damage boost of 5-10% to allow you to keep up with the specialists, without out-classing them.

Simplest for most of those % boosts is to make it work by damage. Under the MSC system, more damage = more XP, and over time, it'd work to the same.

The races idea was also to create options for characters that leveled in entirely different fashions - for instance, by specific choosing skills (elves), or simply having all skills globally raise, regardless of weapon/item used (dwarves), but that's even more dreamland stuff.

Right now, the dev team is so depressed, I'll be happy to get another patch, never mind all this concept stuff.

the dev team should release what they have working and hopefully that would cut down on some of the "whining" given the fact it would give people more to do and make a few happier. On the other hand there's always bugs and that being there could always create new whining. i still say release whats working... its been long over due for a patch.

That's what I keep saying...

But MiB refuses to do a full code release until he fixes the cheat and report there of that J-M advertised a ways back. In addition, he's taking his sweet time about it, having a lot of RL crap to deal with, and we can't communicate to him through the dev forums, as he refuses to come here anymore out of fear of Team Whine, thus we have to bring him up to speed on our latest dev banter with every IM or e-mail.

What code I *have* gotten from him has issues of its own. >_>

As I've said, on the plus side, it does give us on the scripting end extra time to work out scripts for Shad Palace, so maybe we'll be able to a release with that map as a result, rather than tack it on after another month or two of anticipation.

I never advertised a cheat.
Please stop lying.

You revealed and raved about it on the FN rollback forum, and told everyone what a wonderful thing it was that they could use it to cheat all they want without any chance of consequence, and refused to remove it, even when I asked you to. That sat there for two full days before Mikkel finally showed up to remove it.

The only sense that it's a lie is that you didn't actually pay for an "ad". Not that you don't already have a long history of spreading cheats, but I suppose now you'll try to deny that as well.

That was the last post MiB ever read on these forums, so obviously he saw it the same way I and everyone on the dev team did. Indeed, I suspect, everyone but yourself did - and I suspect, deep inside, you yourself see it that way too.

It's not even a cheat. That's like saying sv_gravity is a cheat; it doesn't work either.
The server automatically shuts down if you use [...] so what are we even talking about. I don't even know how anyone could cheat using [...]. That being said, why would The Man In Black even try to find a way to disable it if it's already... disabled? I'd give you the advice to disable the functionality of [...], just like the functionality of sv_gravity has been disabled, but the server already shuts down when you use [...] and that's a way better solution, if you ask me.

Also, I don't recall you asking me to remove it. Then again, I deleted your rage PM about the matter so maybe I forgot. I'll just repeat this one last time: I told Age to calm down because usage of [...] and the following report thereof seemed harmless to me, i.e. I didn't see any possible way at the time to use [...] to actually cheat, nor do I see it now. The Man In Black came in and posted something along the lines of "Way to go telling people they can cheat, J-M." instantly assuming that that was the actual intention of the post while I was only trying to assure Age he shouldn't worry so much. I will say, however, that this over-assumptious reaction pissed me off, so that's why I spent a whopping five minutes to 'unmask' the report system - something anybody with half a brain could do. I then posted it to piss him off for pissing me off, being under the assumption that [...] is harmless. By the way, I'm still under that assumption but I think I already mentioned that about five times in this post, and in the PM I sent you back, which you apparently did not read very well.

I've been resisting the urge about twenty times now to just spam the REAL story of how it went because that's the amount of times (at least) you've made sneaky references to "the Age incident" in your posts. This "J-M is spreading cheats" nonsense is getting a bit old.
It is, however, a problem I can actually solve myself. I might post what ACTUALLY happened somewhere else, where you can't delete it. I think I still have a Freewebs website somewhere. Obviously I would omit what [...] actually is, because if there *is* a way to use [...] to cheat (even though it shuts down the server when you use it, exclamation mark) I don't want to be held responsible.
But then again, I might not post what actually happened, because:
- I guess I can just hope you'll stop lying about it.
- The people I care about in this community already know what REALLY happened.
- A lot of people probably won't give a fuck about either side of the story.
- A lot of the Thothie suck-ups around here will still claim that [...] is a cheat, even if they knew it shuts down the server when you use it and therefore is unusable.

You can use "[...]" and you can use it without being reported, that was the whole point to your rant. I asked you to delete it in the very same thread, in addition to my under 100 word rage of a PM. (Much shorter than the ones you've sent me repeatedly, and without 200pt bold fonts.)

You can't deny having spread cheats for this game for years. Well you can, but many of us here have memories longer than that. Certainly everyone in the old dev team has it emblazoned quite clearly in their minds. You didn't stop spreading your cheats when they asked either.

I'd be seriously interested in what "truth" you claim I'm hiding, how you've twisted the past in your own mind to suite your own flailing sense morality, be sure to send me a link, wherever you choose to post it. It'll give me a reason to draw up my old psyche books, and raise my latent professional interest, if nothing else.

*sigh*

Do I have to tell people how to cheat to even "debate" with you? Or is that part of the plan?

[[Thothie reminds J-M as how "[...]" could easily be used to cheat despite the flimsy restrictions.]]

How'd you even know that Age was clear, without ever having tried the cheat yourself, or inside info, I don't know.

:oldshock:
I didn't even know about that part. You might want to edit that out before people start actually using that 'method'. If it's any comfort to you, only very few people could use that method, if you get what I mean. If I actually knew that, I wouldn't have posted my response to The Man In Black's over-assumptious asshole post.

Still, the reason I posted is what I've always claimed it to have been: to calm Age down. And the intention was not to inform people of the fact they could actually use it (because I had no idea of the above), contrary to what you just keep claiming. That is the part that kind of annoys me. I know my credibility on this is probably pretty low in your eyes, but I can't do anything to fix that, or at least not if you just keep believing that the intention of my post was to tell people how to cheat, rather than "calm Age down"; I'll just be forced to defend myself by saying "I only posted the first post to calm Age down and the second one to get back at The Man In Black for being an over-assumptious dick" as I've said a lot of times before.

As for the cheatmaps thing: I don't even know why you bring this up, because you will only find out that:
- I was obviously referring to you saying (close to two dozen times) that "J-M has recently spread cheats." with the word 'recently' being the keyword.
- I don't deny having hosted a whole slew of custom maps (85% of them cheatmaps) on a certain website for a few years, but I'll admit that my wording a few posts back of "I never advertised a cheat." was pretty poor. Sorry about that. I should have said "I never advertised a cheat for MasterSword: Continued in the past three years, ten months and seven days." to make my point.
- A lot of people viewed the custom maps as a welcome expansion to the game, seeing as how MasterSword v1.3 had not received an update in roughly three years already, when I started hosting them, if I recall correctly.

Thothie said:

wat

And, finally:
Thothie said:
Not to mention anyone with half a brain can rename the commands. It's the publishing of command itself, coupled with the laughing at our inability to catch it in a public forum, that leads cheaters to where to find the cheat that's now so wide spread. How'd you even know that without ever having tried it yourself, or inside info, I don't know.
I guess it's because I don't actively search for cheats in this game, contrary to what you so firmly believe... :|

I would love to get a chance to somehow prove that my intentions back then were not encouraging people how to cheat. You should ask Kuroneko to add a new word-filter to the boards; change [...] to some other word or something. This is a serious suggestion.

tl;dr: Maybe I am just incredibly dumb for not knowing that one 'method' to use [...] to cheat. Or maybe I wasn't actively looking for a way to use [...] to cheat, nor did I have any idea that it could be used as a cheat. Think about that.

It wasn't just cheat maps you were spreading... Dogg was more angry with you for another cheat you were spreading, and that cheat is why he made the cumbersome memory encryption we have now (that sadly oft does more harm than good, and causes that massive lag you get on character loads).

I even honed your training to use that cheat, which I got from your site, in an effort to encourage you to make "reasonable" characters with it, instead continuously running about with characters with straight 255's, that bypassed all PVP rules, such as they were, and just ruined the game for everyone. I even wrote and gave you a program to uncheat your cheat maps.

You quit spreading that, and you quit spreading the cheat maps (however reluctantly - even when I came to you as a fellow player, rather than another angry dev, and asked you to.) I'll give you that much.

(edit: [looks] Although, I guess, technically, you still are spreading your cheat maps - but they are now too dated to do much harm.)

I would have had you banned a long time ago if I had strong evidence you had continued to spread cheats after that, and I trusted, to a degree, you not to, until the thread in question.

Then you refused to remove the cheat, refused to show any remorse for having revealed it, and later went on to say you were "PROUD" of having done so, of having exposed the devs' ineptitude.

We told Age he was good. There was no need to go and explain to the world he was good because we never could know he might have cheated, and you knew that, and you know it. You just won't give in that much to yourself.

Wow, I thought I actually did remove them ages ago. I'll try to figure out my Freewebs password and do it now.
Mega ninja inbetween edit: There, the link (that was already broken) is gone.

I guess this is moot, but I never used my "haxored" char for PVP, because I don't care about PVP. I still don't care about PVP by the way.

Thothie said:

I never ever said I was proud of having accidentally spread [...], once, while being under the impression that it was harmless.
Thothie said:

I never knew the above 'method' actually worked. Now I do.

So I guess you win. Partially.

I did spread a cheat, once, without actually knowing it was a cheat.
So if you would just change
"J-M has been spreading cheats"
into
"J-M once spread a cheat while not knowing it was actually a functional cheat"
I'd be happy. Hell, I'd even settle for:
"J-M once spread a cheat while not knowing it was actually a functional cheat, because he likes to post first and think later."

Your constant implications that I did it all on purpose because I crawled out of the depths of hell are just what annoy me a bit about this whole ordeal.

I am sorry for spreading a cheat command - once - without actually knowing back then that it would even work.
