Finally done! (at least, it is to me). Actually, I'm only done with the rview model, but not the p or w views.

In the zip are the flail_ball and flail_spike rviews along with the UV map I made for the ball.
It's my first real attempt at making my own textures. So if you think you can do better, go right ahead. (And upload them on here so everyone can see)

I plan on making a few of them. Such as a plain ball, ball with more spikes (though idk about this because of the wpoly count as it is), different handles, two handed, double ended (again idk due to wpoly), and an epic flail. These are all just ideas, may do some, may not.

I actually really like the idea of having to repair items. Not godly or scarce items but low level kind of stuff you buy/pick up. And my idea of repairing will come clear pretty soon... as I am making... something.
This is that something, and my idea is for low end flails. Lets say the chain breaks, you need to go and fix it. This could also lead to other flail ideas such as a blade of some sort on the opposite end. Or if it is a two handed one, use it as a staff.

Would be nice to see something different/new than the other weapons currently ingame. I also always wanted to see one of these getting ingame along with a spear but i dont think they all fit too well :?

Poly count wont suffer much id you use 4 faced piramid for spikes, the ball a geosphere and the handle without an excess of stacks.

Tough what might endanger the polycount is the chain

Whats the difference between a geosphere and a standard sphere?

The geosphere uses less polygons than the standart one, while retaining almost the same quality

I, too, have wanted to see one of these in game for a while. My personal opinion is that they should charge kind of like the Tau cannon in HL. Maybe if you leave the charge going for too long you can accidentally smack yourself in the face? Or.. maybe that's a bit much?

That concept worked alright in PVK, back in the day... Sans the smack yourself in the face bit - but the optimal spin-up time was used with the Man at Arms Flail.

Would mean new animations though... and nothing scares modelers more than animating...

Additionally, I can count the number of models that have been placed simply meshed, yet unskinned and unanimated, onto the forums, and have actually manage to reach completion, on one hand - and even then, I'd still have enough fingers left free to eat meh sushi. Only have any hope, cuz Barnum's been around so long, and FER may help him.

I share the same concern with you Thothie and usually pass by new wip threads myself. But I have a pretty good turn out rate and when it comes to me, I usually finish my projects (models that is not necessarily maps).

But some good news... and I guess an update, I have started animating the rview and am rather enjoying it! I already have 3 different idles now and can't wait until I get home from work so I can continue. I'm not going to put an ETA On it because I hate those.

I would love FER's help if he wants to UV map it???

Tough flail has simple shapes so it could be simple

Is there any way we could just rip off the PVK model and all of its animations and then just reskin that a few times?

Edit: Just read the post below that one...

For the record, we always *ask* before we steal models from other mods. (Bit of playground honor I guess - as when we steal from retail games, we instead just pray they don't notice). We asked to steal the PVK crossbow awhile back, and they said "F*ck you no!". So we went away whimpering, and about two years later, cooked up our own two... I'm actually not sure if this model is from the same guy, but until we find out, I'm just assuming it's strictly for inspirational purposes.

Doesn't mean you can't rip it apart and see how it bleeds though. ;)
