I had an ATA HD that went bad, so I RMA'ed it, and they sent me a bigger capacity one, but it didn't work...Sent that one back, and the one I just got dun work...Damned Seagate.
All hard drives are equal! Just because one company has 2 hard drives that fail in a row doesn't mean the next company won't. Thus the only important thing you should look for in a hard drive is how long the warranty lasts.
Well, I'll give Seagate a few things:
They are very prompt, which is good.
They'll tack on a 90 day warranty if your remaining warranty is less than that.
They've American customer service.[/u]
One of thew few large HDD's I ever had go bad was a Seagate. Kinda make me why I have one now. They probably aren't much worse than anyone else though. My friends have had plenty of Wester Digitals go bad, and I think one of my older, smaller, Maxtor's went bad way back. Bad apples in every barrel, or what not - I'd have to see like some sort of consumer report statistical analysis to know otherwise, and most companies try to keep their RMA stats secret these days.
At least they didn't try to dodge your RMA the way EVGA did mine. And oddly enough - out of the twenty or so EVGA techs I called - the Indian guy was the most useful. Their level2 techs don't have access to their trouble shooters.
Bump on the road, for some god-damn reason a couch or table is in a UPS truck with your new HDD... couch or table crushes box containing HDD... broken HDD -_-
Really simple; doesn't even have to be furniture; a pre-built computer or a bulky monitor could crush your stuff you order... all it takes is a bump on the road to make your week's wait worthless (unless you have overnight shipping & delivery, then your twenty hour wait)
