Hi I just bought a new computer off ebay which I recieved yesterday. It says that it is "SLI ready". I Believe that requires 2 of the same card. If I buy another 8500GT PCei could I set it up?
Link of my computer specs: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=017

Can I still do it if my only PCei slot is in use? (8500 GT PCei)?

Updated specs : I added another Gig of ram = 2Gig's

So many questions :?

Thanks

I think your gonna need an extra pci-e slot. Thats where the nforce mother boards come in.

But in my honest opinion, i think that SLI is overboard. I dont believe there is one game that needs that much video card RAM out YET.

My newer computer has an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB PCI-E, and i can run all games fine on it with maxed out settings.

simply put you can't run SLI with your shiney new computer, you lack a second PCIE slot. If you could I would most definatly reccommend it! Specailly if you want to take advantage of AAx8 or AAx16 (anti-alising), but alas your motherboard is crap.

Rebelman, it may not seem like its needed, but it can really help extend the life of your computer, if I wasn't running dual 6600GT I would have had to replace the video card long ago. Instead I purchased one video card when they where still rather new, then the second right before MSI pulled there 6600GT off the market.

good way to save money, gives you the power of the big video card without the drain on the wallet.

Wait til Crysis.

Get a new Mobo, you can't do SLI right now.

Scalable Link Interface

SLI originated along time ago in the old voodoo line of video cards under the name Scan-Line Interleave, worked about the same as the new version, only difference the two video cards where linked together with a ribbon cable compared to the hard bridge connector they use today.

if you knew that then why did you ask what SLI was?

I could have gone more in depth, but I didn't want to sit there writing forever.
