Did Thothie ever contact VALVe and ask for MSC to be put in the steam store? Seriously, its a total conversion and a good one at that.

That would be a problem if he did that, it would make alot more people come into this mod. Alot of them possibly annoying people who would ruin the game for most of us (Cs players mostly). And i wouldnt like to see those moments where there was 5 servers with 6-10 slots each and around 500+ players who constantly play this.

Though it could still be good in a way, anyways of to school i am :|

The worst you will probably get are trolls. And we have all dealt with trolls before.... although I am not sure what the CS community is like. Full of hackers? Most likely. But if you try to hack on FN servers you will get banned. If this does happen we would just have to make stricter rules and such...besides look at the bright side! More people will play this mod and possibly start more servers, larger player database, and it could attract people who could map, model, and even code!

Getting MSC on in the Steam store would be a very very sharp double edged sword.
I would prefer MSC to not be in the Steam store anyway.

Good Things:
1. More people
2. More servers
3. Rise in overall activity

Bad Things.
1. An inevitable rise in hackers
2. More Trolls
3. A massive increase in MSCs existing problems

All of the things I listed are pretty obvious. Also I'm not sure if Steam would like the idea of FN as they would probably want it replaced with something else.

Cs players = hackers, trolls, annoying grown ups, annoying kids, mic spammers.

We already have few people filling those roles here, we dont need more. My biggest concern is the mic spammers and annoying people who would ruin the fun. Trolls usually get owned by what they say themselves, hackers end up getting caught by other players and reported or caught by the devs.

The good thing about this: more people, hopefully more servers, more people working on content for this mod. Everything has its ups and downs, in ms:c's case it would probably turn this mod upside down with alot of flamming or probably kill it even faster if that was to happen.

I am unaware of any process of getting onto Steamworks that does not involve either inside connections, spending a few hundred dollars and/or monthly fees, or giving up the rights to the project (not that they would be interested in taking them anyways).

I'm sure he just means having it in the store like this http://store.steampowered.com/app/90020/
Can't download it from Steam, they just link you to the moddb profile or website. I don't such much a use for having it there though as I doubt anyone knows to look up mods in the steam store. Just search mods and see how many HL1 mods are listed. Most of them are probably dying if not more dead than MasterSword.

People could try emailing about getting it listed but I don't think they'd listen. What people can also try is to get it talked about on Podcast17, or having someone create a 'Lets Play' youtube series about their adventures in MasterSword. I'd watch a LP if the following requirements were met. a) Not have huge segments where player x takes 30 videos to get from 27-28 swordsmanship, b) Player x is enthusiastic and witty while playing , c) Player x shows off how much fun can be had ingame, and d) They have a good voice (pre-puberty need not apply).

Didn't have time to spellcheck or find any errors.

Dating back to MS 1.3, my efforts have always been to make Mastersword as accessible to as many folks as possible. I've been yelled at for that before. ;)

Eric Straus went on to work for Valve, so I think that's where their inside connection came from. But no one from Brain Bread ever did, SFAIK, so I dunno... Hrmm...

I could e-mail Eric and ask, although the last time I did that, it was only to have our request for a VS model denied. In the end we went with Troy Thompson's model for the mesh for our light crossbow, but that was originally a replacement VS model, so I dunno if he'd be anxious to help us. ;)

LOL! I remember doing 9player VS LAN parties with my friends back in the day... Good times... good times :)

If we make the game more popular then more people will hate on my works of art

Dridje and I had recently spoken of this in-game.

I was a tad curious; can Fraps record microphone too? I'll have to run by the piratebay and get a cracked version of it. Don't have the money to fork out for a retail version. I'd try to do a "Let's Play"-esque series with different MS:C maps and quests, to explore the game further for those who haven't played it, but I think it seems like a bad way for spoilers to leak. Spoilers and hints for players that haven't experienced the game yet.

I don't know. It'd be good for popularity and getting the word out, without having to draw crowds from Steam directly, and getting the CS 1.6 children within our servers. Many YouTube channels are hidden gems, and only found if searched for. I'm constantly trying to make the game grow with word of mouth, but it only gets so far.

I'll give this a shot soon, when I think of a good introductory, some players to run something with, and a good ending (Downing an intimidating boss, getting an awesome weapon, or something of the sorts).

It won't record mic and game sound at the same time, however, you can set voice_loopback 1 in console, and then you'll get your voice in-game when you use the mic comm button.

Full version of fraps doesn't have anything that the demo doesn't, save the lack of logo stamp, SFAIK.

I suspect single player MSC would make for a really crappy "Let's play MSC" video though. You'd need a group of talkative folks to sell that one on youtube.

Although even that can be Pretty Painful. ;)

No offense, but with the graphical quality of most of the monsters not to mention the fact that half of the models are stolen/borrowed from other mods, I don't think we have much of a chance. This thing is a lawsuit waiting to happen if it got into the Steam Store.

sigh.. you just about categorized the Internet.

so what you will get a few faggots but also gain more sincere gamers that like rpg
like stoned said, "we know how to deal with the trolls".. so whats wrong with getting some randoms to play this awesome game and learn to love it much like we do.

Yes, i categorized it, you may say so. Small Community that gets a alot more players, means a alot more of hackers that will ruin the game, means a alot more spreading things that arent meant to be spread, means the game itself would be much dead if it kept FN going. Can you really see this mod having thousands of players, and ~100 servers and everything going cool in here? I don't think so.

Also orochi has a point there about "stolen models making it bad for popularity", never thought on that actually.

EDIT: Look at team fortress classic for example, it's small right now but still full of trolls in every server you join with players in it. Not to mention the amount of admin abusers in that game, i would'nt like to see Ms:c get that far unless the project was close to an end, but it is not.

I'd be annoyed at the fact that their would be more locked servers due to random people being asshats and ninjaing anything in their path, oh or the pricks that actually make it far enough to annoy people by standing in narrow halls *cough*lodagond-4*cough*, or the scrubs that run around asking nonsensical questions about nonexistant gameplay mechanics while singing to rick astley.

There is a lot to fear about this going big time public and as such should slowly be pushed into public, cause if it all of a sudden becomes the "big thing" then were gonna get more bad than good just so they can try and destroy the new thing for everyone else.

Thats not to say this mods anywhere close to new, but you get the concept, they always target the newest things on steam and as such all half life 1 and 2 mods have suffered from it and MSC will ultimately suffer from such events as well.

You guys are acting like by putting the game in the Steam store (which is highly unlikely to happen), that suddenly TONS of people will see the game and be like 'OH MAN I'VE GOT TO TROLL THIS GAME!' If anything, you'll get a few stragglers here and there, probably not any more than you get now.

Any and all arguments in this thread are moot, including my own.

WE do have modelers so why not just make new models for all the ported items? Doesn't have to be released in any patch anytime soon but rather it would get done when it gets done.

Theres was something, glorfindel was trying to make new elf models.

Also I doubt we would get any lawsuit considering we dont even profit with the stolen models.

Let's see... Brain Bread's in there, and nearly every weapon model, and every prop model in that game was stolen from another game. The propane tank, in particular, we ripped straight from HL2. All of VS's prop models are stolen, and nearly all it's textures are, and if quality is a factor, for some reason, their best is no better than our mid-grade. Hell, even DOD has a good portion of its textures ripped, and it went retail with all of them still in.

Granted, MSC has more stolen models than any mod - granted, MSC also has more models than any mod - even more than Svencoop, even with every map pack combined.

Been waiting for p_models, that don't require any new bones, animations, meshes, textures, or UV mapping, for over a month now, and you think someone's going to get us new models that require all of the above? HA! HA I SAY! :p

Meh, I shouldn't talk though. If I did get them, then it'd all be on me, and I'm not going to have much net time the next week or so, me thinks - not sure yet... At least this way I can still blame others... >_>

I've been on a few mods that got into the steam store with no connections to valve or payments, but I can't remember how. I think the Valve team and the Steam community managers themselves are separate entities, and all you do is shoot them an email asking to get listed. I don't think MSC is necessarily a C&D waiting to happen unless people instantly recognize the content that's in the game, or you know, they made it themselves. At the most they will probably just recognize it, and then laugh and run to the forums to complain about it.

I was working on elf, children, and various NPC models, but school started again and I have a new job and and and... uhh

parley?
