So apparently I was reading this stuff today about how in August Mars is going to get exceptionally close to the Earth, a rare cosmic event that won't happen again until 2287 or something like that. It is going to approach the size of the moon in our sky!!!!! This will be epic guys get out your good cameras and telescopes and dust off the lenses!!!!!

I blame the martians at 4chan. ;)

Closest mars ever gets is 70 million kilometers, or 2 months by the fastest ships we have on the theoretical drawing board, or so I heard, at which point it still looks like a star. Gets that close every decade or so though.

*sigh* I remember when NASA had plans to get us there by 2004. :(

Shame they're lying, that would have made an excellent belated birthday present.

An arc second is a fraction of a degree (1/3600 of a degree to be exact) and a degree is a unit of angle measurement. Width is denoted in units of length measurement, and therefore you can not measure the width of a human hair in degrees (or fractions thereof).

Quod erat demonstrandum.

It's like having someone ask you "How big is your dick?" only to reply with "About 37 arc minutes." :!:

Sounds painful. :\

...and to think I get odd looks when I reply "A little to the left." to the question, "How's it hanging?"
