There are some in this community who feel that we should not be able to simply vote for every map in the game. There are others who feel that we should be able to vote for every map and no restrictions should apply. I have come up with a reasonable compromise to this minor schism in the msc community.

Put a travel agency in all of the town maps. If a person wants to travel to, say, the aluhandra region but does not want to walk he should be able to pay this travel agency to take him where he wants to go. Traveling to dangerous faraway places should be expensive and traveling to close locations should be relatively cheap.

Most importantly, this idea would help our economy. We can all agree that gold has next to no purpose whatsoever and I think most of us would agree that something should be done about this. If this suggestion were taken it would help to mitigate the problem of a lackluster economy.

Discuss.

While you're at it, make sure that for every place you go, there's a tedious gryphon ride.
Oh wait, wrong game..
The map up top must've confused me.

Unless it cost like 30k a ride it'd hardly put a dent in any high level player's bank accounts.

And would it be one person pay for everyone to go? Seems like a lot of players would get a free ride...

There is a cvar option for those strictlers to the traveling system, such as it is...

msvote_map_type <"all"|"root">

"root" sets the server up so you can only call votes for root towns (edana, deralia, helena). "all" is the default behavior (allows voting for all but gauntlet, hidden, and a few "special" maps, such as old_helena.)

Should also point out that nearly half the existing maps are disconnected, and thus only accessible via votes. Both the cvar settings allow voting for disconnected maps.

It does get a bit infuriating to run into mid to high end characters, sometimes even over 30, who don't know the proper method to reach some basic maps, but the proposed system wouldn't really do much to fix that.

I think its a neat idea. Ive had a problem with how you could just vote to different maps all the time. (disconnected or not)

I would only agree with this if there were a travel npc in every map.

Otherwise, host a server with travel options restricted.

Don't be surprised if people don't play on it though, people don't even like playing on ms_farmallday 0 servers.

Not too bad of an idea, toss in a horse carriage/wagon and a npc, and pretty do what you said in the first post.

maybe itl put up a vote for each player saying something like..
%name wants to travel to Shaddadar's palace, and it'l cost 50k.
Will you pitch in 10k?

Do you think there is anything that could actually be done about this? Like perhaps force players to walk somewhere once before they can vote or something?

Well, there's the no-voting-for-20-secs after map change rule... And for the hidden maps, at least one player has to find the entrance. Beyond that, I got nuttin.

Even I don't know...
I somewhat agree with this. I would hope that this would NOT be the only economy balance or else the rides would cost a fortune. This seems much better then breaking my bludgeon in the middle of the_wall and having to go to helena to repair it for a fortune :oldcry:

I am curious how you would have people redo a dungeon they are in. Lets say someone is doing cleicert for their ring and they need to run it several times in a row, would they have a *RESET DUNGEON* button? or would they have to go to edana and pay to go back to cleicert?

Phone-booth time-machines at the entrance of every level to allow repetition.
But no, I don't agree with a travel agency, sorry.

I would say the travel agency would not apply to any map that was currently disconnected. You should be able to vote for cleicert. For maps that were connected, however, all you would have to do is walk to a transition zone on the map, transit to the previous/next map, and then return.

I like the concept of;

msvote_map_type "root"

Liked it back than, enjoy it even more now .
I don't see a nature for a travel agent, when theoretically you could simple walk...

It doesn't have to cost that much, just small amounts, as long as they aren't making more money per map then they are spending it will eventually drill a hole in their pockets. Also, I wouldn't mind only one person paying, and everyone else getting a free ride. I think this is a good Idea, but I votemap because I hate loading into thornlands to walk 30ft just to start loading again. I'm just too impatient I guess; hate loading time.

i personally like this idea... i think the map vote system kind of destroyed the "exploration" part of mastersword. i liked the old game a whole lot better in some aspects...
