Some combination there of. You can get them out, sometimes. When you do, your client may crash, but you should still have them when you reconnect.

i have the answer to achieveing fire arrows.
open the chest take one fire arrow, it WILL crash. then open MS again and as long as you have one fire arrow in your quiver it wont crash when you take another.
