Commandos 1 Problem

I don't know if any of you guys have had this game before but I'll try anyway. I bought the game from steam and when I run it the Save game, Load game, and the profile preferences are all greyed out. Even when I start a new game those options are still greyed out. I tried to get a refund on the grounds that this game is impossible to beat without saving but steam support gave me the old middle finger.

So I just made this thread incase anyone else ever played this game and encountered this problem + a solution.

I've went and posted on Steam-powered, I was told to 'get a refund asap'.
I've posted on the Eidos forums, nobody is replying to me.
I've read all the other threads regarding this problem and tried everything that was mentioned in there, nothing worked.

That is an old old game. Fun, but old. Maybe it's compatability issues with your graphics card/OS? I know some old games I try to play don't work cause my system's too complex.
