Ok, So I got the newest leak of the sc.dll and such, installed it, then went to join Avoozl and others for map testing. Master sword refused to start. I'm use to this with source games, so I just restarted steam. Still no luck. I went to restart my computer. I got...the blue screen of death.

For those of you wondering at this point, I'm using my roomates comp. I can't boot up, not even Save + Command Promp mode.

***STOP: 0x00000029(0x00190203, 0x86FD5140, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000) is all I'm getting. My roomate who knows more about comps than I do tried working with it. He found that it isn't registering that I have a hard drive. I CAN NOT reformat this. There are way too many things on there that are important and that I only have 1 copy of (Our old comp was low on memory, so I cleared all of my files off it for my family)

So in other words...HELP PL0X!!!!!!

It's registering that you have a harddrive, otherwise it you wouldn't get a bluescreen. You'd get something like "Primary hard drive not found" or some such silliness.

You can prolly get away with a windows repair/reinstall depending on what version of windows you have. A reinstall, assuming you don't select an option like "reformat my hdd lolol", won't destroy your data, just your user settings and system registry. A repair would keep that all in tact, but you'll need to reinstall updates and any programs that are closely tied with the OS (AV, drive emulation)

Thats my .000000002 cents

or you could reformat and go through the painstaking task of "un-deleting" files ;)

(theres a program called un-delete, and reformatting hard drives doesn't completely wipe the information off, unless you use some silly program like wipe-drive to do it)

but methinks kuros idea is better >_>

Or not...Through other suggestions, I'm going home again this weekend and getting my XP cd and I'm going to do a soft install.

But that means that I have to wait until late Friday night to GET it and I won't get back until maybe Sat or Sun. So I'm going to be gone and not able to work on anything for awhile...

I would recommend this for saving your computer.

1. get your copy of xp in the cd rom drive
2. boot to cd
3. when prompted to either install or repair say repair
4. work your way to the console
5. type "chkdsk -p" or "chkdsk -r" one implies the other, to find out this info type chkdsk -?, or chkdsk -help
6. this should fix the issue long enough to save your data

if you need more ideas on how to save your comp just pm me, I have many ways to save a computer without formating.

You try a rollback yet? (Assuming you have system restore enabled?)

It's sloppy sometimes - but not as sloppy as formatting and parying you can undelete all the files you want. ;)

That's essentially what I'm going to have to do Blasto. I'll let you know if that doesn't work >_>

Thothie, I can't even get anywhere where I would be able to do that, and I don't know if it would work anyway. I can't load my computer at all, really (Not even to DOS), so until I get the XP cd, all is lost for now =\

My friend was telling me the other day about an external hardrive with (I think) 40 gigs for 30$, so when I get my comp working, I'm going to buy that and back up everything (And maybe install Steam :D)

If you get as far as a BSOD (Stop error) - you can do a rollback... Hold F8 just before the winderz logo would come up.

Granted, if ya can't get that far... Ya may still be able to stick the CD in and use recovery console - if you remember your administrative password.

I haven't even set an Admin pass, and I can't do anything with it right now, I already disconnected it and it's sitting in the corner (in time out) waiting for me to finish my last class, then I'm heading home.

Also pie.

My information.
I hate it when computers start acting up... like when the HardDrive suddenly screws up on you... I've had it happen to me somewhere around four or maybe even five times. Each time I was forced to do a hard-drive wipe.

Well, I'm back at Squirrel's house with my tower. I remembered that Dell never gave me the Window XP disk, it was just pre installed. Assholes. So I brought it here to hook up with Squirrel's monitor, keyboard, and such on his other comp. It wasn't until I started to hook up the keyboard that I discovered that I don't have old keyboard or mouse hookups. I only have usb hookups -.-;; None of the 5 or so keyboards that he has have usb, so I'm going to have to wait until one of my OTHER friends gets in town and hope that he has a keyboard. If not, I'm just going to call Dell support and tell them to get over here >_>

I am sorry to hear that it may have to come down to calling dell support. dell support is beyone EVIL!

Just so you know they make a cable that converts a usb to mouse and keyboard PS/2 hookups.

All Dell computers have a hidden backup parition with the basic windows install. All you need to do to reinstall winderz from scratch, is sitck in their restore CD, or get in there with Knoppix, or some such, and copy it to the main partition after formatting.

/me still wonders if he ever tried F8

Yes, I did. It did nothing. Nothing I do to boot windows will allow me to get into windows, thus I went to Dell.

5:34:16 PM Dgopal_117972 May I place this session on hold for 2-3 minutes, while I research my resources for the best possible solution?

Woo...Good thing he's a pro...-_-;;

I gave up looking for disks when I remembered that Dell didn't give me the install. I'm not going back to Omaha to look for it. >_>

The guy pretty much is telling me that there is a PC Restore, but it erases all my data =\ Then again, he says that Drive Savers can recover it for a charge. Maybe if they can recover it, Squirrel, my roommate, or Squirrel's bro can recover it without a charge..

If you can get some sort of OS CD to boot, you can backup your stuff (no need to pay for that, jeeze). Works bet with Knoppix, if you have a burner. (Just burn off the bits you want to keep). You are going to have to format or at least reinstall everything though - so I wouldn't bother backing up any programs that you have the installs for.

Dell should also have a download you can grab that'll activate their restore partition (but yeah, it erases everything).

Still... I fail to see how you can get a Stop error BEFORE Windows starts booting. I'd try holding down F8 just as your BIOS gets done reporting (before the Windows logo would try to show itself), it *should* give you a dos-style text menu that would include using system restore.

Not all do. They all have utility partitions, but they only have some little happy fun diagnostic utility.
