This thread should be used to discuss the potential merits of a character wipe.

While it is true that a character wipe could be a bad thing because it might drive people away from the game, it is also true that there might be some benefit to starting over.

It would provide for an opportunity to completely re-balance the game. It might also make it easier to try new things like level scaling. Also, it's been said that being able to select power, balance, or proficiency when we level up is in the works. This change in the game mechanics will make leveling in msc feel like a new experience. MSC will feel like a different game so it would make sense to start fresh. It would also provide a great opportunity to re-balance item spawn rates and locations and possibly even the difficulty of some monsters/maps. It might also provide a great opportunity to try to implement a new magic system or a class system.

Oh, and it would be a great time to add new quests for every level range that players could then test out.

Not happening.

Might help in the short term, but not in the long. Also means a lotta drama.

There be a post that I did not make running around, and I suppose I should put that rumor to rest as well. Again, not happening.

MiB managed to give us a new Polearms skill with no need for a character wipe. Only downside is it looks a little funny on the character sheet - in that Polearms comes up after Spellcasting. Probably can hack up a fix for that though - not that we need to.

They'll be plenty of opportunities to start fresh when we get new races in. Titles might be so hard to back out of at the higher tiers that you'd like to as well. MSS, of course, will be an entirely new system, and everyone will have to start from scratch there, but as far as MSC is concerned, your current characters aren't going anywhere.

It would probably overcrowd all the low level maps which are fairly monster-thin to begin with. If servers were extremely plentiful, and there was a reason for the p-wipe, such as forced skill specialization of say 3-4 or even the addition of something like the Chart of Dreams (hopefully beseeching you, Thothie) instead of all 7 skills, and maps to be rebalanced to take that into effect, then I'd say yes, excellent, do it now.

But a character wipe just for the sake of one would cause way too many issues. If something groundbreaking and adds heaps of possibilities was implemented (yet another significant, partially pleading, look towards Thothie) then it would probably be the only course of action.

Still not happening. ;)

Ye can always start over... Could make a guild of only low level characters, if ye wanted. Storm servers with newbies. I kinda figured when we put new races in, there'd be a bit of that going on anyways. (Dwarf Rush Kekeke!!11!)

I would like to do more for the low level characters though - gods know there's all sorts of things we could do for them, and I *prefer* playing the low level characters myself (hence my going through characters like tissue paper).

-Yes, if most of the community accepted it and there was a couple of big updates to be released after this wipe (updates such as race selection, class system/a.k.a chart of dreams, new spell casting system and leveling system, and of course polearms).
(edit)
-Yes, only to see Keldorn go from top of the line, back to where he should be, LOL.
(/edit)

-No, because it will drive most of the players away, i can't see myself grinding from scratch in order to reach my current lvl again.
-No, it would make alot of my life time spent on this game flushed down the toilet aswell, i would feel like killing myself after wasting hundreds of hours in a game and then see those hours simply go poof.
-No because i also doubt there will be any big reasons to do it, unless most of the community decides to cheat on FN for no reason at all, if it takes a couple more months to fix the problem, guess we should wait rather than jump into this type of solutions.

OK so I read the thread.

Wow dude, not even I would say that. You suck, hahaha!

Anyway, my take on this is: bad idea. Not only would it surely drive the vast majority of the community away for good (like [spoilers]me[/spoilers]), it would also probably be a reason for those who are left behind to keep new XP/money exploits to themselves, so they can be the first ones to break n HP and x gold.

It's not like i really mean it... It was a way of putting things for other people to see, though it would be damn annoying to see it happen, would probably be pissed for a few hours.

Heh, can't count how often I suggested something like that, only for the sake of fixing the exp ramp, some monster exp and the **** ******** ******* **** ********* ******** economy. Personally I'd say do it. DO IT NOW!! But I gave up that idea long ago.

Still, as Thothie says, new races should satisfy most people who'd be for a wipe. Assuming they got a better made exp ramp...

I doubt most people would want a wipe, especially high level char that spent hundreds if not over a thousand of hours to get there character up that high. Most they would probably want to do is create a new alt, but I doubt they would want to get rid of there old char.

Remember what happened the last time an XP ramp was implemented into the game...?

I think he was one of those who wrote me begging to restore that, actually. ;)

But I don't think that's what he's actually speaking of.

For those of you too lazy to page back: Again, stop panicking - it's not happening.

Nuff said, anyways I do not agree with this because I would also hate to lose all my hard work, as well as see some of my friends possibly leave. So no I do not agree with this at all.

No offense meant to anyone, but I can't help but ponder the terms "hard work" when it comes to a game that's supposed to be fun. Tell me more about that perspective. i serious. I used to overplay this game because my life was kind of empty and I had nothing better to do back then. I wasn't having much fun grinding either but I don't even want to try to imagine how my boring moments of emptyness would have been without MS:C granting me the opportunity to see some progress somewhere, even though that was painfully slow. If the FN server blew up or something, I wouldn't feel at all like I had just lost a chunk of my life, what's done is done and it was fun. Even when it wasn't... I mean... anyway yanowatimeenrite?

Well, with the MORPG's, play time becomes an investment. You could imagine the rage if WoW decided to reset everyone's characters one day. "Hard work gone" may really be "Hard play gone"... I suppose the old "time wasted" argument is invalid, since the time is wasted either way, but you expect some virtual return for your real-time investment, at least, I suppose. ;)

Granted, WoW will still do some gutsy things from time to time. I hear they are going to do some sort of global cataclysm event come December.

Doesn't mean there'd be any less rage on an individual basis. ;)

I get the point, still even though say, for example : I farm 20 hours non-stop to get a shiny steam crossbow in a map with sucky exp and don't get one. My first reflex would be to think "What a waste of time" but the game still entertained me, kept me away from boredom and granted me something to look forward to, even if the map would be utterly boring. I mean, boredom and anticipation in a game isn't as bad as the same in real life right?

On a side note, just another display of my opinion on a character wipe, right now I'm waiting for a full installer and don't have MS:C installed right now. But if there was a wipe, I'd reinstall it all right now and have a freaking good time. It just feels pointless to start a newb all over just for the heck of it, while you have a 975hp main sitting there. But when your main has 5hp, hmmm gotta fix that!
(Not trying to persuade or anything, just my 2 cents.)

People can't complain about "wasting time" or "losing time spent" if their characters were resetted if the game is fun. But what if some parts of the game aren't fun?
