My information.
I suffer from something similar to gay, but not as gay as what you have to suffer.
I could probably roll-back my version but I don't WANT the helena exploit enabled, EVER! Anyways, I can only play on the map I create with my server, map change, changelevel, changelevel 2 command, & transition zones do NOT work for me. My dedicated is probably able to at least map change since I haven't updated it yet. I have the latest patch & everything, the latest dll's, as of Jan. 8 for the experimental patch, the ms.dll patch, & Jan. 11 for the sc.dll. Everytime I attempt a map change I suffer from:
Error Allocating Memory Block
Error Deallocating Memory Block
and then a LOT of debug errors with my Hl.exe
Of which I ignore them all, or try to, since the other options, Retry & Abort, crash me, I used to be able to get past these 3 errors, just made my server take FOREVER to switch map, & up to dev patch C I didn't suffer from these at ALL, but now it is havoc. In order to stay connected to the FN network too, I have to quit MS & start up again, if I wish to change the map. So this is total havoc 4 me :p
BTW I am using my sister's computer:
AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.16 GHz
512 Megabyte RAM (all these things are relatively new)
128 Megabyte Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card (latest drivers for all)
512 K/B Cache
160 gigs of harddrive
and a decent internet connection

You can keep the current SC.dll and roll back the MS.dll - and you'll prevent the Helena exploit (amongst others) while retaining map transition ability, etc.

...and you can roll back the client.dll
so you dont have to
speak in twenty
letter sentences
and sound like
captain James T Kirt

However, rolling back the MS.dll to any version earlier than E also gives you back your memory leak.

(I've not tried rolling back that far on the laptop to see if it fixes the CPU/lag LAN/WAN issue I get.)

Any thoughts on how to fix the crashing? I don't even get an error message :(

Heh... I wish... The same thing happens to me... It's cool that they wanted to do something good for the MS:C community and release it for the new year... but jesus.... this is getting a bit ridiculous

I can play, but when I try to change to sewers it always crashes, or thornlands it crashes except ocationally it will switch but won't let me select my char (says in Elena).

I just noticed the patch thread, updated my things and will test it.

Youre talking about client side chars right? With the new patches, you just have to wait after the "saving transition -->save complete" I switch only when the "save complete" thing disapears completely and I'm always fine.

EDIT: haven't tested todays patch yet
