Crashes before loading?

Hey guys, my friend needs help installing. Well hers the problem..When hey to start the game, it kicks him out of it once he sees that tower picture without any error message. He installed everything right like I did and I'm without a way to help him... Can any of you offer a solution?

To be honest, I don't think the GPU will affect anything because I remember playing this game when it was just created with my Riva TNT2 (Spawn camping that bear somewhere near the begining in such a place where he can't hurt me ).



Any help will be appreciated.

Here's a wild guess: Maybe the tower image is causing the crash. You could try deleting (or moving) the \ms\resource\background folder (it contains the background picture, in different 'pieces'). Maybe that works. I'd surely try if I were you.

Damn... could you tell me *exactly* how you installed the game? And what you installed?

Steam installed.

Half-Life installed and played once (So that the directory would be created).

MS UnRARed into Steam\SteamApps\<MyAccount>\Half-Life\

That SteamPatch UnRARed and Overwritten the previous files.

Started game from the "3rd Party Games"

CRASH without any error message.

That is an odd one.... Hmmmm.... You just get a glance of the tower and then *poof* eh?



This may or may not help... But I have an alternate install you can try. Close steam and delete your old MS folder first.



Be sure to close Steam before installing a new mod.



This installer is an exe (inside the zip) smart enough to automatically find the proper folder, etc, and includes all the patches:

I was ready to give up.I already deleted all, anyway, I remember the game from two years ago, it wasn't that great. I'll give it a try, thanks man. Ah, yes, my Enter button is broken, sue me (Both of them :|).

u have to install 1.35 and then download the steam patch and instead of oferwriting the folder overwrite only the files that come w/ it so u still have all the other old ones left plus the new ones. try that.

I'm stumped... I assume other HL1 mods work for you... Hmmm...



You could delete all the CFG files in MS, and let it revert to your valve .cfg's... You could change graphic and sound modes before loading... (Make sure EAX/A3D unchecked in HL1 launch, then delete MS .cfg's). Alternately, you could gather some fresh babies and sacrifice them on an altar in the name of Gabe Newell. I find this helps sometimes...

I think that's the only way to make it work.
