Re: Crenia (not in-game)

The main problem I see here: you don't realize how much you're overscaling your map.

Here are some suggested standard dimensions of things:
Player dimensions: 32*32*72 units (width*depth*height)
Hallway width: 64 units (minimum is 32 units)
Hallway/room height: 128 units (minimum is 72 units)
Staircase step height: 8 units
Staircase step depth: 12 units
(this is known as "8 rise 12 run")
Door dimensions: 48*4*96 units (width*depth*height)
Window dimensions: 32*4*32 units (width*depth*height)
Wall thickness: 16 units
Floor/ceiling thickness: 16 units
Desk height: 30 units
Counter height: 40 units
Small room area: 128*128 units (width*depth)

Try using some of these dimensions so your map doesn't look so freaking huge.

Re: Crenia (not in-game)

Woops, I missed that part.

Kindomtitan, putting a huge box textured with "SKY" around your map is a bad idea. Instead, you should put sky brushes only at places where you have to seal your map. Never put a box around your map, because it causes huge lag.

And the skybox also appears to be 1 unit thick

Re: Crenia (not in-game)

If you do decide to have your map be that actual size, try scaling your larger surface textures up to like 1.5 or 2.

It will reduce the amount of lag and it won't look as repetitious/bad.

Re: Crenia (not in-game)

Does the white block (ms_playerspawn i think) represent the actual size of the player on the map?

Re: Crenia (working at)

You need scale. Every unit in halflife is one inch, however hl player clips are 'fat' and the field of view angles are wide so make doors sizes and room heights slightly bigger than they would be in real life.

Do you measure the scales with the grid?

Re: Crenia (working at)

Mostly yes . ....

Why ??

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

When I remove the box , I can't compile it.

But i've compiled the map already , when i want to start , The ErroR cames.

Despite the bugs described above, I like it.

If you have your hammer 3.5 configured correctly, you don't see a white box - you see a player model - this kinda removes all doubts as to scale.

You still have to seal your map proper.

Re: Crenia (working at)

Using 3.5 is the way to go... Using Source hammer, that's difficult.

You'll have to excuse my red background and white-striped null texture. ;)
