I followed thotie's guide worked out great! except for my server is only lan, meaning not showing up on masterserver browser .. I *think i opened the ports up right but giving another player my ip address (to connect through favorites) does not work either ..

Most likely is that your ports aren't open correctly, or you have a firewall in addition to your router (or visa versa). Make sure, also, that the Windows firewall is configured/disabled. Only other possiblity is you have sv_lan set to 1 in the server.cfg

Darn its not Sv_lan for sure, all set to 0... I must be my router's ports because windows firewall is off.

my router is real screwy when i try to unblock ports, it freezes half way loaded after i click apply changes.

Edit*Nevermind fixed that problem

What I think the problem is that I dont quite under-stand the DNS/IP hole thing yet.. when the server loads up it shows [ Server ip : 192.168.X.X ]
like lan would be... or not even that my privite ip that sure isnt right. I set my dynamic ip just like the guid has said and set my router ip, and I opened all my ports disabled every firewall known to man and no sign of server on master server..I can see at the bottem of the guid that it was sometimes its just not possible to unblock ports on some ISP or routers.

Please if you know whats wrong reply
the players needs the server [/img]

You found your router on this list and clicked on Half-Life, and setup your router accordingly?

That's his internal network IP though - and his server isn't in the Steam Browser - suggesting it is still firewalled somehow. :(

Well golly gee willickers, I am stumped. Hmmm... It maybe you have to power down the router and reset the system before it will take effect... But, I feel it's likely you already tried that, and unless you've done something horribly wrong (and I'm not getting a vibe of incredible incompetence from your direction, mind you) - I've no idea. :/

Only alternatives I can think of, without direct access to yer puter, are to try to bypass the router (direct connect), or replace it.

edit: one other idea... Use http://www.whatismyip.org to find yer external IP ... Then head down to https://www.dyndns.com - and setup a Dynamic DNS account (free)... (Use something like "kray.game-host.org".) Then set it to your external IP (via modify host). Then tell people to connect to kray.game-host.org:27016 - and then they SHOULD be able to reach you. - In theory. How to get Steam to recognize your server though... I've no idea.

Paste the info you get at http://www.whatismyip.org into the Modify Dynamic DNS's "New IP Address" blank, and click "Modify Host". Do not include the game port.

Also try having people connect to your server via the IP at http://www.whatismyip.org, with the game port.

I've a feeling this will not work though. If you aren't showing up on the Steam Browser, you must still be firewalled in some way, or the router isn't pointing at the right computer on your LAN.
