I dunno if that has already been brought up, but because it didn´t got fixed right now, I will post it.

Everytime I am walking through Deralia, there are parts where my fps are dropping rapidly. Maybe it´s because of a hole in a house. See screenshot:

Nice catch.

If you can map, we would love if you could patch up that hole :D

What's up with the H.U.D.? It doesn't look like the latest one.

He probably had the huge glass vial issue, which requires deleting the main_hud.tga.

Yeah, it´s just a litte hole, nothing hard to do. I will fix it (IF WINBSP WORKS).

Yep, though I actually have a red and a blue bottle :|! After a mapchange I also have white squares instead of blood. Maybe I should get an ATI 3870, it has full OpenGL 2.0 support.

OMG
Decompilers fail so hard :(!

Seems like I either need a better decompiler or the rmf/map :(!

I highly doubt you will ever find a proper decompiler. You'd need the source, and if we even have it, I suspect Thothie can take care of it rather than sending it out ;-)

Decompilers "guess" where the brushes are and fills in the rest.

NEVER COMPILE A DECOMPILED MAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only time, ONLY TIME, it is acceptable to decompile a map is to figure out how the original mapper did something. Never steal!

Y'know, this might actually not even be a maphole; if you texture a face with NULL, it won't render, causing you to 'see' the void. But such a non-rendered face isn't actually a hole. Mostly, when there's a real hole in a map, the map will only compile in fullbright.

Deralia also lags a lot because it has a lot of open spaces, causing the engine to draw a lot of world polygons at the same time.

Edit: Just checked, and just as I expected; it's not a maphole. The mapper simply forgot to texture that face. It also can't be a maphole, seeing as how there's a wall behind that brush, and behind that wall is a part of one of Deralia's streets (right in front of the castle). The void isn't actually behind that chimney brush, but because of the NULL texture, you see the void.

Everybody can make this mistake; even Thothie forgot to texture a face in his fabulous new Helena crystal cave - at the part where drop down into the room with all the wooden planks and the larvae, look to the right.

:oldshock:

Sadly, Deralia is one of the maps we have no source for... It'd really need to be restructured entirely to get decent FPS out of it... The whole "huge tower in the middle of town" map concept was a bad idear - although it could be done if the other ends of town were blocked off better. But I guess the map designer figured it's a non-combat zone, so FPS ain't important.

(edit: Damn, I can't find this null face in Helena - someone send me a pic!) ;)

Here are some in-BSPViewer screenshots:
How to get to the NULL face.
Almost there...
Here it is.
Clearer picture.

Don't get me wrong though; I'm just being nitpicky. This crystal cave is, hands down, the best cave I have ever seen in any Goldsource game. I knew you were a pretty good mapper after seeing that new transition area in daragoth, but hot damn, this crystal cave is just downright amazing.

Edit: Thothie, there's actually a second NULL face in your crystal cave. In the spider room, when looking at the exit (basically where you came from - not the 'drop down' entrance by the way) look down, look at the floor. You should see it right away.

If you've never noticed low fps on MS:C before then you're computer is VERY weird. It's MS:C, fps drops are supposed to happen sometimes.

/agree with Jelly

But yeah, a Deralia remake would be AWESOME(As long as we can somehow keep the tower, what with the gamma lighting...Tasty).

Well, so's mine, but I get a higher FPS on Oblivion than I do on MS:C, sometimes.
