Seriously. If the patch is going to take this long to be released a small, mandatory fix for Umulak should have been issued months ago. The game is completely and utterly broken right now.

Wow, two threads that have relevant topics with each other? Something is definitely messed up if it can cause that, coincidence? I think not.

Tsk, shouldn't assume things like that Stoned, the other thread is an obvious jab at this one.

Someone could do a simple ripent to remove the multipliers/limit the spawns of the beetles if it's really that much of an issue though.

What, you know that:
-Lvl cap will be raised;
-Its cheap right? But once people reach the current lvl 40 cap in all skills, i myself doubt that anyone will go over 40 anytime soon, even myself and any other player, unless the xp in future maps will be extremely high to make grinding to 45 even worth doing;
-Thothie could have fixed it anytime if he wanted to, if he didnt do it before a new monthly patch, maybe he is planning something with all this? (i bet on higher lvl requirements for some new weapons);
-Thothie already had other things to work on before fixing the map, like sorc_villa;
-Polearms gets added, something to grind from scratch without the beetles awesome xp.

Also, its something that anyone can use right now without any exceptions (maybe for some newbies/starters). The only let down i see is everyone who used to be 300-750hp is now like 750-860 hp without going through much grinding like myself and some others did back in 2008 or earlier.
It does piss me off when i think about it, that it took me months to grind myself to 855 hp and then a few more weeks to get around 930 hp, now i see people doing it within a week or 2 tops.
Though i cant complain much about it since i also used it once in a while to finish off some of my skills.

By the way, you shouldn't be saying this Oyster. Reason? I've seen you use that same place to grind a few times, not really alot of times but i still remember seeing you there killing beetles. So basicaly you are doing this: "Hai guys, im done farming/bored(of) umulak's temporary great xp, can you please fix it now and make everyone else not possible of doing what i did?"

tl;dr version :arrow: Wait for the monthly patch with the umulak fix(question of a few days left) and quit complaining about something you used and dont appreciate that others use it aswell, seriously. :idea:

The only thing cheap about it, imo, is that you can hide away in that hole. The beetles are tough and definetly deserve high xp, but you shouldn't be able to just spam them with tork bow (which you dont even need to be proficient in to level up with) and get thousands of xp per minute.
The only let down i see is everyone who used to be 300-750hp is now like 750-860 hp without going through much grinding like myself and some others did back in 2008 or earlier
This is basically the only problem I have with Umulak. I personally don't think we need to reduce the XP. I'm not even sure we need to put a limit on beetle spawns. Ideally, we'd just close off that hole and make people fight for their xp fair and square. But it just doesn't sit well with me that so many maps are now completely obsolete for new players. It's like the mapper completely wasted his time.

That is one way of looking at it. Another is that, having exploited the map myself, I know first hand how cheap it is. Either way, just because someone is a hypocrite doesn't necessarily make their argument wrong. It just makes them a hypocrite.

Shame on all of you exploiters. :evil:
For the record, next time post about a major exploit you shouldn't post enough information that can help new players figure it out.

And to everybody else, try harder not to spread it. :wink: Loose lips make you end up at Smugglers Cove.

Pretty interesting, coming from the guy who made the actual map :mrgreen:

Also, a coughing man in a black rain coat told me that you whored MA from level 30 to level 35 in the beetle cave.

Even I don't know...
Hrmm... I'm starting to feel guilty... I've done this map a lot because the exp was really good and I had a chance of getting a Lightning Rod (Also it doesn't glitch nearly as often as Cleicert)

In my defense I never stopped on the beetles longer then I needed to...
^guilty man's excuse...

Right, but if I understand you correctly you'd also prefer it if Umulak was never fixed at all. Perhaps I have misread you, but that's the way it seems.

I don't really think anyone needs to give excuses. Let's just fix this exploit and move on. People who started playing MSC around the time this last patch was released have a serious chance of matching Keldorns stats now, and that just does not sit well with me.

So oyster, lemme get this straight...you would like it to be fixed cause it shoulda been fixed months ago, right? well look at all the players that sat there still playing during that year of no patches and new material...now look at the people who left the mod cause there was nothing new and everyone was starting to drop like flies.

If you ask me this map is just a tool for those whom were on a good spree that had to stop for whatever reason or patch reasons and didnt play for months on end to catch up to their friends whom had still played the mod religiously. Now do you think it fair to kick down old familiar faces, old friends and family just cause they took a break? it may seem right but sometimes you just gotta think if its just a fair little gain to those who have not been up to speed yet like they used to.

Im not going to lie, its tempting to just sit there and try to catch up with all the people you used to be equal with, those people who you used to run lodagond with...but at the same time its given such bad titles that would slander the very friend trying to catch back up to join you in your quest for enjoyment in the mod. Its not breaking the mod, its helping people who had to put the mod on hold for reasons over the last year of no patches and as such will indeed be nerfed in time, but shouldnt be till there has been some form of headroom.

Label it what you want, but I stand on the side that deserves atleast a little leaveway in the long and tedious grindfest of most of the maps here. To take away this when we start hitting a penicle of old players returning would be bad in its own cause that just will drive them back away cause have you even seen some of the new maps? the wall isnt exactly a walk in the park. So just give it time and dont pressure it cause their working on it just at a fair pace to those whom are still comming back to the warm open arms of MSC.

err... what? I want it fixed because it is bloating new players stats too fast. I think it should have been fixed long ago, but I certainly don't think 'it needs to be fixed because it should have been fixed months ago'. That doesn't make much sense.

If you ask me this map is just a tool for those whom were on a good spree that had to stop for whatever reason or patch reasons and didnt play for months on end to catch up to their friends whom had still played the mod religiously. I do not see how it is fair to give someone who quit a special bonus so that they can catch up to 'those who played religiously' without actually putting in any effort. That's the opposite of fair. Furthermore, I don't see how this suggestion is 'kicking down old familiar faces'. All I want is for people to stop hiding in a hole and spamming spells or tork bows.

Its not breaking the mod, its helping people who had to put the mod on hold for reasons over the last year of no patches and as such will indeed be nerfed in time, but shouldnt be till there has been some form of headroom.
Even if that were true, we've had plenty of 'headroom'. The patch has been out since May. That's like, 5 months. Thats almost half a year of 'headroom'.

My take on this: I'm amazingly surprised that Thothie didn't instantly fix this when he first heard about it, which must have been at least six weeks ago. Obviously he doesn't see a reason to release an emergency patch. So why bother making this thread if you can use the same logic I just used to conclude that there won't be an emergency patch anyway?
Next to that, I only think the Umulak thing is an exploit if you use ranged weaponry. If you're training any melee skill, the beetles can hit you just as much as you can hit them.

What, if you want to lvl up archery, how will i lvl it up if it involves doing ranged hits without getting hit back, just like the neckhunter? I'm not going rambo with a weapon that is meant to be used at a distance and avoid at all costs getting hit back, and not to mention the bonus you get when you die while shooting a torkbow, so yeah, think about it.

It would be exploiting if there was someone afk'ing and spamming that crap in a safe spot. This doesnt make any sense at all, it's just like you are saying everything that is range based attacks is an exploit when used, really.
Not to mention the slowass xp rate you get when you use ranged weapons like torkbows because they do alot less dmg compared to some of the newest meele weapons.

I fixed it months ago - before I had a compliable Sorc_villa actually.

My net be fuxored out here, but maybe I can find a way to put up a mini-patch for it if we don't have a more sweeping patch soon. It involves a recompile though - and once such a patch is up, you can't play the old one anymore, for FN will spit it out. (Which is actually true of even ripent jobs at this point. :\)

I woulda done something about it sooner, but I just wasn't expecting the full patch to take this long, TBH.
