I started my listenserver on Edana and my friend joined first. He could read my chat but I couldn't any of his except through the console (any type; global, party, local). Then we played calrain2 and keledrosprelude/ruins at least twice each with four other people that joined (in total three level 30s and three level 17s ish) and it crashed lots of times. It crashed both times on the blacksmith, once near death other when we just got in. So, the game ended up crashing at least 8 times in total and when switching from edana to whatever map I get memory allocations errors fairly often. These aren't new bugs by any means but can't something be done about them? Very frustrating to put the effort in to get everyone playing and beating a hard map (these weren't hard, but you get the point) then it crashes.

Oh, and I still get the skippy/lag bug. My temp from SpeedFan skyrockets while playing MS. I idle at 24ish and run at 35-45 on every other game (Crysis, CoD4, what have you) so I don't think this should be underplayed as it has been in the other threads just because people don't clean their fans. My computer is very stable in it's temperature.

If you use changelevel to warp maps, you will get memory dealloc errors - use the vote system. Beyond this, I've no new advice, save maybe to reduce the maxplayers on your server. :/

...and a CPU running at 100% capacity shouldn't overheat within 24hrs - that is the standard. MSC can't take any multi-threaded CPU beyond 50%, so if MSC is overheating your computer, it's your computer's problem, not MSC's. Try grabbing TMPEG and encoding some DVD's with 2+ threads. I bet your CPU lasts 20 minutes.

Thanks, I usually do use changelevel since it's faster. Is there any reason for that or some kind of fix that's possible? Not that it's a huge deal now that I know about it.

My dual core 3800+ isn't so bad. I'm just stating that the temperature skyrockets above anything I get for playing CoD4 for an extended period of time. It is a little rediculous even though MS relies more on your CPU than GPU.

Edit: Casting ice shield as you teleport into the blacksmith room in calrain2 seems to crash it consistently.

It's bug that has existed since MSC 1.2 in one form or another. The vote system bypasses it - although... I'd say admin_map <mapname> (which also bypasses it) - but that's only good on a listenserver, due to the admins.txt fun-ness.

That's probably why it never seems you're fixing the bugs that annoy me :oldlol:. They've been around as long as me and yet I never knew it was due to changelevel. I guess I'll use the built in adminmod or just vote it. However, it seems since March B I can't even get my char to load the first time I load edana. I always have to changelevel/vote it back to edana before I can select char.

Did I mention this month's patch has just been made of fail?

We keep hitting coding walls - memory dealloc was one we gave up on long ago. AMX was the initial way around, at least now we have one that's internal to the game. But of course, now we have these freaking client 255 msg errors. I don't think we're doing another release until we're sure we've licked that, as it's worse than most of the bugs we have fixed. I'd hate to roll back a year to get rid of it, but that's practically what I'm looking into now.

If Edana's the only map you can click on because your character refuses to stand up, then you've got some seriously fubar'd mix of old and new maps. If it's just crashing, see above regarding fail.

No, that's not what's happening. My description was probably poor. I load my server on edana first (because I heard that's what you should do). When I load it on edana my character doesn't even appear, it stays at loading. So I changelevel it back to edana and my char appears and from then on everything works peachy.

It doesn't seem to do this if I load on another map first.

Edit: It just worked with edana, and it didn't work 40 times yesterday. Crazy game .

Edit2: Now it failed...

Welcome to MSC. ;)

So what yer saying is, very often, you have to load Edana twice to see your characters, but this does not happen on other maps?

It maybe a matter of configs. Maybe you could post your listenserver.cfg - but be sure to edit out the paramaters of any FN entries when you post. It might help to also make sure that the FN entries are at the end of the file.

Ya, that is what I mean. I need to load it a second time to see them. Or at least it doesn't load within 20 seconds (i'm impatient). It just worked on the first try again so it doesn't seem to predictable.

I'm sure someone else could point out something else I'm missing here but...

In Durak's case, all I can see off hand is the need to turn the Log off. The "CPU Spikes" you are experiencing could be the result of log error spam being spooled to the HD.

For Mikkel's all I can suggest is to add the superfluous statements:
Code:
sv_clienttrace 3.5
sv_maxspeed 600

For while they *should* be superfluous, occasionally some behavior is seen without them that otherwise shouldn't happen.

Also an actual admin contact would be useful - you put an e-mail/IRC/IM contact there for clients to contact the server host should something be up.

I added the newer MSC vars to the sample config in the HLDS tutorial recently, but I don't think any of them affect you guys.

I'll try that and see if it helps. However, my brother got the same thing on his computer while he was on a server other than mine. We both have the same processor and if no one else gets anything similar that could be it :oldangry:.

So, I deleted "log on" from my listenserver config and in game it said the log was off and I still got the spikes. The game runs at 40-50% cpu usage while running around edana. I'm really not sure what it could be. I thought it may have been related to the music but it happened and none of the "playing /mstown" or whatever appeared. Not sure what it could be but it's pretty consistent. I'll run around on some other servers now and see if it happens as I can't recall whether it did it not.

Edit: Ya, this was supposed to stay to the random spikes thread. Oh well.

Edit2: Was just playing on replica's server and I didn't seem to get any spikes :(. I had 80 ping though and it seems more like 200.
