Free copy of HL2 Deathmatch

Hrmm... I wonder if this includes enough of the Orange Box to really play mods.

It'd be handy... None of my alt Steam accounts have the Orange Box, and thus I can't play most mods with them... Says I can only register one account though... I wonder if my computer will explode if I try to register two.

edit: Nope - this is crippled. Ye can't play Source Mods with this.

You can't play source mods with HL2DM anyway, as it's also just a source mod. HL2 isn't that expensive anywho.

I think you can, actually - but only the older ones.

You should be able to play Source mods with Portal, as it runs on the Orange Box SDK - and this comes with a demo of Portal as well.

But I guess you need a package that officially includes the SDK - such as the Orange Box itself. Guess tis not like the old days when you just needed one qualifying game. The materials are there, but it won't let you use em. :/

It gets a bit sick though - some mods require the Orange Box *AND* HL2:EP2 be installed - and a few require that, plus Counter-Strike Source.

Well, it depends if the HL2DM install comes with source shared.gcf, I guess. I've had a look inside the HL2DM .gcf and it looks like it contains the stuff it needs, such as the weapon data for the SLAMs and the stunstick. It doesn't come with the models for any of the base source NPCs (like Eli or anything).

So yus. Buy HL2 or the Orange Box. It's worth it.

Yeah, that only came with it if you pre-ordered. That's mean of them to say it still comes with it, though. It might have, who knows? Have you scoured your games list?

Oh, whoopsie. Thought you were talking about the Orange Box. But that did actually come with Peggle Extreme.

I was just going off Wrath's complaint. I didn't try it myself... Somehow it didn't occur to me that I might need Peggle Extreme on an alt account so I could... You know... Do all the intense multi-player testing needed for the numerous mods folks make for that game?
