That thar be a new one... Right now my Steam won't start at all, so I couldn't tell ya.

I'd suggest turning off your error reporting, as the winderz error report maybe covering up a more meaningful error message.

Control Panel->System->[Advanced] Panel->Error Reporting ... Disable, and uncheck "But Notify me..."

My information.
I'd suggest making sure your Windows Firewall isn't blocking anything. I just updated Windows using the auto-updater, and it auto-blocked everything concerning Steam. Every time I start a program through steam, I have to check off a box to unblock it... it'll save that one application (like DoD:S & CS:S), but there are still a few games I haven't launched & unblocked yet.

Anyways, because of the windows firewall thing I had the same exact, and very annoying, error window hit me & it murdered my game :p

You tried wiping msc folder (Or backing it up by putting a - infront of the folder name), installing msc again, then installing thothies patch?
Also, did you make sure you shut down steam b4 installing it? Maybe you only did a partial update.

And I don't believe Windows firewall itself can create that error =/
Unless you specifically had the windows firewall popup before (or 'right' after) running the game, then that's not the case.

Reks, are you aware that Windows comes pre-set with a virus scanner? So you may think you don't have one, but you are mistaken harshly so... it is the built in (and un-removable without damaging your system) Windows Firewall system.

And yes, usually the windows firewall pops up IMMEDIATELY after the game starts RayonMazter... but I already know what goes wrong when it does for me, so I have no problems with self-fixing; concentrate fully upon helping out Reks.

Anyways, Reks you should still make sure you don't have excessive background crap running, and make sure you aren't running a Macintosh (even if you self-assembled, check again; maybe you pissed off Santa Claus) as Mac's tend to go to hell on Half-Life (as a friend has told me, I dare not touch that unholy abomination of crap that took the title of "computer").

Also, I must *highly* recommend using SpyBot Search & Destroy as adware/spyware can cause loads of trouble for computers. SB: S&D has over fifty-five-thousand (55000) types of adware & spyware in the database that it searches for, and destroys. It also is able to, currently, make your computer immune to over fifteen-thousand (15000) types of adware & spyware. Meaning, over 15k (15000) things of adware & spyware can never bother you again.

So, yea... even if spyware/adware isn't related to the crashing, if you haven't already obtained this program; you should. It has an auto update'ish system, you choose to manually search for updates, then you click the ones you want to download, and it'll automatically install whatever ones you choose to download.

Finally, it comes in many languages. So if you don't speak English as your native tongue, don't worry 8)

I have never come across that error except for when something was installed incorrectly, the coding in the software had errors in it, or I was missing files/drivers/components.

But help yourself to the virus/spyware idea.

The fact that your other mods work (If that's what you meant by 'other games'), how would it be virus/spyware involved unless thothie decided to put that shit in his patches? Not to mention this was the only case/problem he reported of having this error...

And what I meant (And I think I stated, but was misunderstood) was to also try just installing and running MS 1.0, to see if it is in thothies patch(es) or not.

Yes, I'm putting viruses in my patches, that's it. ;)

I do scan everything before it goes out... But a virus scanner / spyware checker, may prevent proper installation of software, as could not having full administration access. Seems unlikely though... I also don't think Windows XP SP2 has an actually virus/spyware checker, just a "security center" that screams at you when you don't have one installed. It does have a built in firewall, but it's usually so damned passive, it doesn't affect anything (at least not Steam).

It maybe one of your DLL's got copy protected as the result of trying to be installed while Steam was still running, and is now corrupt (Think this happened to Crow or RED a ways back). This can be a bit of a pain to fix, involves rebooting, and manually deleting the DLLS and CL_DLLS folders from MSC, then reinstalling the beta patch. (Make sure Steam isn't setup to start with Windows, as it may protect the DLL again when it starts.)

I'm not always the best with communicating because I rush chatter, sorry.
the above meaning if he was having issues with your patch, anything [not virus/spyware issues lmao. Cuz we all know thothie is going to bother hacking our characters to play for himself right?].
