No, it's not the texturing. It's the brush work. I don't want caves like mscave or daragoth, I want them like ms_snow. Snow's caves look rocky and beautiful, not like they were carved by an ADD miner >_<

While the caves look like an impressive example of vmanip, I'll have to agree with MiB that it doesn't really look like a cave.

I do appreciate your comment, but - call me stupid if you want - I really, really don't see what's wrong with my caves.

At least try to explain what the problem is. The "they look like a room you'd find in a carnival fun house" comment doesn't help, sorry. I need to know what the problem is.
Bad texturing?
Too few solids?
Walls not detailed enough?
Floor/ceiling too 'harsh' (not smooth enough)?

What? Explain to me what makes the cave look like shit and I'll be happy.

1. Ceiling Texture needs to be changed (preferably rock)
2. Red crystals look bad, just period.
3. Walls need to be VMed
4. Floors look like HILLS, not cave floors. Go look at ms_snow's cave floors. (Or go spelunking)

It kinda looks like a dirt path with the floor mirrored to the ceiling. I dunno if thats helpful at all. Oh, and its also missing some common features of a cave stalactites and stalagmites.

Thanks for telling me that - never really noticed how bad it looked to be honest :D

I don't really know how to make those look better. After all, they're just transparent solids.

I guessed this was the main problem but I forgot to list it - thanks anyway.

The cave you see in these pictures isn't high at all. At some points you have to crouch to move through, so you might have a wrong sense of scale. But I still agree with you - the transition from... ehm... downhill to uphill, so to say, is way too rough.

Thanks for the comments anyway. I'll definitely keep this in mind when working on the caves in my upcoming maps.

I didn't mean hills because of the size, I meant it because they seemed to scream the word "rolling", for some odd reason (rolling hills, btw)

I lost you again so I'll just try to find out what you mean by asking a question:
Should the floor and ceiling look ROCKIER, or LESS ROCKY? As in steeper or less steep?

Edit: I am guessing less rocky (less steep). Am I right?

For some reason, I'm thinking that it looks too "good" for msc.

I think the red crystals would be fine - if the light they emited was also red... Ya might also be better off using a solid texture than a transparent one. There's a few nice crystal textures in the standard wads.

I used texlights for the crystals. The colour is actually red (255 0 0) and the brightness is 500, but the texture I used is YELLOW. I don't even know why I didn't use the RED texture but I'll just do a recompile.

So yeah, these crystals are actually yellow crystals emitting a bright, red light. Stupid, I know :p

And yeah replica I'll send you a PM.

Also, Rilez, windows in medieval days never were that big and huge. Most houses back then had multiple windows that were separated by wooden frames. Your windows are huge and that's what doesn't make it very realistic.
