I found a cheater.

...basically what I see happening is this game its getting more popular

HENCE, people are more interested in getting stronger, and getting an edge, be it cheating or exploits or going down on Blasto/Thothie.

rooting out cheaters on the internet is tough... nobody will openly say they are cheaters for they know the consequence... the only way to find evidence would be through difficult collecting of evidence or by befriending them.


I don't feel like wasting my time going on a witchhunt through cyberspace, or befriending those greaseballs.


well then... I guess it is finally time...

I Mario, have used the following exploits in the game:

1. I deliberately hunted bugged Horrors for quick exp gain
2. I stockpiled and used magic potions from the Deralia potion shop during a beta

AND THE BIG ONE

3. I exploited character rollbacks to duplicate items


The items I duplicated were:
1. Torkalath Blade
2. Raven Mace
3. FCK
4. Fire Gauntlets

Of these items the only one that took real work was the Tork. I spent a week playing into the morning farming those f-cking caves. That sweet techno beat played in that boss room is now torture. I didn't want to put a friend I was trying to get into the game through that shit.

My friend never got into the game... and I deleted that character that I had holding those tickets. In his place now I have a level 11 assasin, two weapon specialist character.

5. Helmet of Resist Cold

Someone else duplicated this for me on their rollback. I won't name who because I really can't remember, it was long ago.

I was tired of seeing level 20 douchebags running around with golden armor and resist helms while my level 30 who ran ms_snow at least 10 times a day GOT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I got fed up, so I resorted to the exploit.

I think I have made lots of friends here, and gained the trust of many people here on these forums...

But there you have it, I found one. Burn the Witch.

well mario its nice to see you come clean on such acts, because you did exploit me and the rollbacks all your characters will be wiped.

You can still play but keep in mind if you perform another exploit/hack you will be banned. I would go soft on you because I played a lot with you, but in the world of security everyone is equal and will get punished accordingly.

I am also going to add this, rollbacks are no longer going to happen. Unless you absolutely need it. Dropped an item and want it back? Go find another. So many are abusing the system, thus I feel the need to no longer perform rollbacks, except for those who have over flowed, and experience serious item loss.

This only makes me wonder how many others...

I just don't get it...

I can understand a lot of the reasons as to why cheating has to stop in this game, but how far is this going to go? Yes, I do feel a little jealous that I don't have some of the cooler, rare items in the game and I see someone my level or 10 levels lower with them. I know that part of it has to do with I don't play with a lot with other characters that are my peers, or have the backing of any well known guild to hold my hand and show me exactly how to get the good loot. So I guess that means I have to work a lot harder to get anything, or get very lucky somehow. In any event, I can accept this disadvantage in the game.

My point is that this new rule about only allowing rollbacks for some serious character problems is going to really affect the trading system in this game. As I've posted before you drop something, disconnect and bring in another character, that item has a very high chance of disappearing. I know I would be very pissed if I traded something and what I got disappeared.

It's not like Mario described how he was able to have unlimited HP or mana, fly, go through walls, or make a super powerful character. Those are huge advantages that to me a very unfair to have, and would make me a very angry to see someone being able to do that. To dupe an item is a very minor advantage, and if it was used so that everyone had some super power item, well there is already code in place that limits low level character from using them. So to see someone dupe an item and give it to a newb, is no different to me than seeing someone who's in a huge guild and played for a long time give an item to the same newb.

What really gets me is how many real active players are there in this game, maybe 100? That seems a little high to me, maybe there are more than that, but do you really want to push anyone from playing this game because you want to completely stop cheating? The real important question, how many of them pay to play? I know I haven't paid one dime to play this, so why should I care what items/abilities anyone else has. This isn't CS, I'm not trying to kill other players, I'm killing monsters. Also I really doubt that there's anyone in this game making some real money by duping items.

I think it's a real good feature to have in the game to be able to ask for a rollback and get it, no questions asked. I'm just worried this is going to lead to giving proof that you really need the rollback. I'm lucky that I've only needed to get a rollback once, due to an overflow, and I got it. It never occurred to me to use the rollback system to dupe items.

So, please developers, relax a little. Remember, it's just a game...

Well, as for the raven mace - the main ability of this can be used my any level, even if you can't swing it you can wield it and get the bonus. Many armor items have no restriction, therefore are insanely useful for low levels. I believe any level can wield sir geric's which would make the thornlands caves solo able by under level 10s easily.

I do find it annoying when I go around and see level 10s with fire gauntlets or golden armor, simply because it makes whatever work I'd have to do seem pointless in comparison.

I think the main problem comes in when maps are being designed for players with better equipment then legitimate players would have, for example - I believe no level 20-25 would be able to take on Demon Temple without equipment from other, higher level, places. I've found level 30s having difficulty with greater ice blades.

Duping items such as the raven mace which are very low spawns [got mine on my twentieth run or more] or the invulnerable golden axe [which at the moment is so far out of my price range it's unbearable] is really useful. Also the elemental resist equipment is almost required for high level snow runs, each of which has like uber low percentage drops - even with multiple players [which I still don't understand since more players = less overall difficulty, despite whatever level ramps they've got in place]

The community will certainly go easier on you, Mario, but - as has been said rules are rules.

It may be just a game, but if you don't crush this problem at its early stages, then it could lead to the mods destruction (cue drama prairie dog). MS in its early stages had more cheated characters playing than legit characters. Hell, even I (who normally don't cheat) had a legit character, and a stat hacked character (255 for every stat, yes, not humanly possible playing the normal way) for when the server was full of other hacked characters and were killing everyone. I, and I am sure the devs as well, don't ever want to see that again. A game that is easily exploitable and has cheaters running free doesn't bring in more people. It actually will kill a mod.

Slaytanic_pb your points are valid, but look at it from my point. They took advantage of a system I offer, its not fair to me that I am the reason they duplicated their items.

Its called social engineering and to me is the worst kind of thing you could do. once your willing to step outside the game and influence the real world for a benefit in a game there is no question, its the lowest of the low.

That and I follow this philosophy -> abuse the system, lose the system.

So many times I saw people saying "Meh no use playing I'll have a rollback because I lost xxxx" I always said "Well... go get another :? " I fully agree with Blasto on this, being used to duplicate items would make me -->

I liked the days when myself and oedipus could play maps on our own i mean we helped each other get rare items (50+ runs or easy above that amount) for EACH raven mace, that was b4 the player amount in the server, but other items like blizzard we could solo the map about 2 times to get that each. those were the fun days were u could solo a map about 2 or 3 times and get a decent item, recently there has been loads of overpowered weapons/ armour, about a couple of months ago golden armour was rare, and the gib, i know everyone (including myself) were annoyed by the fact a lvl 15 had a gib and using it, now i didn't get a gib till lvl 29 or something now that really pissed me off that i had to w8 till i was at a stage where i didn't die on ms snow by 3 boar charge hits. now its just really stupid with the fact of pheniox (how ever u spell it) armor + bloodrose = exploiting bastards that go afk for days and then they suddenly have like 100 to 200+ hp more, also the fact they have got like every piece of equipment in the game pisses me off too, myself and oedipus did skycastle millions of times for the golden armor, i had to trade most of my items to get golden armor, and now its as rare as a apple in edana. i really do suggest a couple of months ban for ppl that exploit atholo, also pheniox armor is just to damn resistant to everything and like almost everyone has got it, for me i've still got my golden armor i traded for ages ago. all i want is this game to be fair to all players.

if u disagree with that ur probably one of /supporters of the exploiters or just completly a newbie that wasn't here when the gib was rare and leveling was hard.

EDIT: i also wanted a rollback because i lost my blizzard scroll (this was long time ago) and oedipus just said something along the lines of "We might aswell play for another blizzard scroll its quicker" and so we did and it was more fun doing it that way, tbh the new reward scheme for getting rare items i think is just useless, i would prefer to play with a friend and get the rare items together quickly and not have any nub come in and take our reward for killing the boss last second (just set slot amount to 2) rather than having 4+ people getting the items at a chance of something stupid like 30% and having to repeat that for everyone else woudl take like a day, also some nub could join and take it then not bother to help the others get it. conclusion: not too many players, and bring back the old reward system
