Hi, i need to know how my brother and i can make characters on our own PC's and then get them to show correctly in any LAN server, because currently, i make my own LAN and have my own character, and he has done the same, but when i join his, my character messes up (like goes to level 1, loses inventory, loses levels etc). I ticked that Enable central server option, but it does no good. Can someone please explain how to create a server that my character and his will be on?

ok ive set that, but i wont have a chance to test it tonight. I DID change the option in game to clientside characters at the server menu... but i dont think options really do anything, the listenserver.cfg overrides them

thanks... it just seems a bit more troublesome than ms 1.35. i also had problems with the queen spider quest in Thornlands... i thought that had been sorted by this beta pack? I downloaded that map fix off thothies web site, but i dunno if they are outdated

OH MIGHTY PHAROAH THOTH... alleviate my suffering! It seems upon switching to client side mode my character has totally dissapeared... it only works in server mode. Is there a way i can edit my character file to make it a client based file? Also, would it not solve problems to make a console based command to load character save files from the msc/SAVE folder?

i.e. a command that forces the machine to load a particular save file... im sure it wouldnt be that complicated to code?

Your old character was a server side, you are now using clientside. You need to go into the character-saving folder/area and edit these characters to work accordingly so. That means, if you see a server-side-1.char or somesuch, change it to match your steamID (if it has your steamID in it, make sure it is exactly how you want it).

cl_save1.char
OR
LAN_CHARNAME_1.char

Rename your old char to one or the other filename to make it show up properly. If your friend had a decent char he doesn't wanna remake, it is on your computer (if you were the host) and you need to send it to him, and have him rename the char too.

Then edit the listenserver.cfg like you were supposed to. ;)

Sadly, the MSC devs did not use my fixes to Thornlands from MS1.35. MSC also had some additional complications in regards to that, but they are fixed in the map updates. Those updates are up to date though if you grabbed em from http://www.thothie.com/ms - I do not provide links to MS 1.35 map patches on that page.

It almost sounds like you're trying to play MS 1.35 though, given the LAN character overwrite issue, that was resolved in MSC. If that's what yer trying to do, those patches wont work. There's no way the local character should be overwritten by the LAN character though, unless you didn't restart the server between setting changes, or worse, did so mid-game.

Thanks people... Yeh i tried to open the save files with notepad to edit them, but changing the name is much easier :D i dont know why i didn't see that before... Yes i found that when playing a LAN server in clientside mode, it is best to wait in a transition zone until you see down the bottom left a little white message saying Transition Saving, then wait till it says Save Complete. After several tests of this, it seems that more often than not if you rush into a transition zone and press accept before the save is complete, your character will be unuseable even in Edana (This is what happened to my clientside character, it took ages to fix - it wouldnt work in char_recover either).

Thanks for the help, and my prognosis is to wait until that little message Save Complete pops up before you transfer! OTHERWISE YOUR CHARACTER RUNS AWAY!
