Are you like me, in the way that, you port foward, sv_lan 0, even put yourself in the DMZ and no matter what, you're server just won't show in the server list?

Note: This worked, but now doesn't... Real strange.

Well I've been cursed by that for months and whilst I was playing around with the HLDS, I did something wrong, the server went up but never showed in the list... UNTILL I added the msc.bat Thothie says to make, when I ran the dedicated server like that, it showed up in the list but I couldn't connect to it. So I thought, why not apply the same sort of idea to a listenserver.... So I went to my C:/blahblah/steamapps/email/half-life folder and created this little .bat. It's nothing impressive either, it's a copy and paste of Thothies with a slight change.

Basicaly make a text document, and put this inside:

start hl.exe -insecure -game msc +maxplayers 6 -port 27016 -noipx -console +map edana

Note: I'm not sure if the listenserver.cfg overwrites the max players set here, but set youre stuff here to how you want, even change the starting map if you really want.

Rename you're new text file to whatever you want, but change the .txt to .bat. Double click the bat, it will go a bit slow, and take a minute or two, but after a while you'll be put into the game on a normal listenserver, but this time, it's in the list, well it is for me anyway :)

Update: Ok my server just suddenly disapeared, but it was there cos Humansteak connected by it lol...

Update 2: Now I can't get it back in the list... Really weird why this worked once for about 5 minutes...

It doesn't matter if you do that from a .bat file, the autorestarter, or with your game properties. Tis all the same.

Maybe your router is auto-adjusting your DMZ. Try taking yourself out of it and just opening the proper ports.

The only time I've been able to duplicate this is when my IP wasn't static. Make sure your IP is static, and that the ports are open for your computer's specific IP (not just all of them).

Then there's always the, I suspect superstitious, 'heartbeat' in console. ;)

Heartbeat in console seems to do nothing... My IP is static... I haven't tried turning off the DMZ and just doing it the normal port way... I guess I can try that.

Edit: Is there any port triggering that needs to be done, or just fowarding?

I should clarify I mean the computers internal IP assignment needs to be static, rather than the external one.

I've never done nor heard of any triggering needed, so I suppose not.

Yeah mines a static internally, I set it up a few weeks ago and I'm still the same as I was then.

It's suddenly in the list as I type again. It's strange cos anyone can connect by IP (As you have done Thothie the other day)

But it doesn't show in the list...

That's what my internet at home does. I don't mind. It's like having a locked server without people burning-da-witches if I'm testing a map.

BioRage, You've just lead me to believe it's Linksys routers.

I'm sitting here staring evily at my Linksys Router as I used to be able to host, but we swapped router cos our old one didn't have wireless..

Dear Linksys, you suck, kthxbai.

I had developer console turnt on, and it's made this show that never used to before.

Adding master server 69.28.151.162:27010
Adding master server 207.173.177.11:27010
Master Heartbeat timeout 0.166225 against 200.000

And also:

heartbeat
Master Heartbeat timeout 0.166127 against 200.00000

This isn't normal I take it?
