Just out of curiosity i've seen on one Natural Selection map (cant remember the name) somne incredible lava effect which really doesnt look like its a brush at all.

How does one make that?

You'll have to describe this lava more if you want this question answered.

I would if I had a video or the anme of the map.

Only description I can come up with is that it was falling lava

....sounds like an animated texture. Unless NS has some special FX entities (which I dont think they do..then again I could always be wrong) but how about you take a screen shot of said lava?

NS has a sprite emitter entity, and a localized MP3 player entity, tis about it for FX.

Is it a vanilla map, or third party? I can't think of a vanilla map that fits that description... I used to have a collection of about 400 NS maps, but alas, the Crash of '09 wiped them out.

...Assuming it's third party, is it a CO map, or real NS?

It was a vanilla NS map, had a small furnace with that lava.

Ye vanilla NS maps:

ns_altair - No lava
ns_ayumi - No lava
ns_bast - No lava
ns_caged- No lava
ns_eclipse - No lava
ns_eon - No lava
ns_hera - No lava
ns_lost - No lava
ns_lucid - No lava
ns_machina - No lava
ns_metal - No lava
ns_nancy - No lava
ns_nothing - No lava
ns_origin - No lava
ns_shiva - No lava
ns_tanith - No lava
ns_veil - No lava

Canna think of one with lava in it. :\ Lots of deadly sewage, but not actual lava, much less a lava fall. :\

Kinda odd, as for some reason I have in my mind lava running under some grates in NS, but a cursory glance at the maps leaves me stumped as to which map it might have been. I pretty much played exclusively real NS, and vanilla at that, though I've not played in quite some time now.

Was it in or near a hive? Cuz that's what I was imagining, but... Meh...

I remember this one CO map with a lava fall. I can't remember the name, though, and it wasn't vanilla.

im pretty sure theres lava in ns_origin, near one of the hives. Its like a big refinery or whatever you call it. I forget the name of the hive but I know for a fact that there is lava there just outside one of the entrances. Also ns_origin is a very beautiful map. Also when is fucking ns2 coming out I pre ordered it a century ago.

i cant really remember what it looks like, I havnt played ns in an incredibly long time. ns1.4 and ns2.0 were my favs. But it is probably a scrolling texture combined with a looping env_shooter thats tossing out some kind of orange sprite or something I dunno.

Goddamnit... The molten metal in the smelting plant of ns_origin... HTF could I forget that!? How many times have I kamakazied into the gew there to avoid giving some fade or marine 2 res points? ;)

ns_origin_falls.jpg

Nothing special about this molten metal texture really - it's just a very bright texture set to be used as a light texture during rad. The lava texture in mscave has the same properties - just this one looks better, not needing to be stretched as much to be optimal, as it covers a very small area.

This particular lava fall, in addition, has some env_shooters making some little glow sprites at the top edges, but I don't recommend that in MSC due to the entity count it would add.
