Since I'm starting to map now, I'd love to get some help with a few things;

Where can I get some basic prefabs (Trees, basic houses, ect)?

Are there any basic cliff tutorials out there? I'm looking for semi-basic ones, as I can't probally replicate J-M's cliff and I refuse to copy and paste from others.

I hope I can provide some info/screenshots of my map when I actually make something decent!

If you want detailed trees, you need models. If not, people usually use cylinders to make trees. For tutorials, http://www.snarkpit.net is good, but slow due to low bandwitdh. For a list of resources and stuff, http://www.vladitute.com is good (Of course you can also turn to collective.valve-erc.com as it pretty much has everything you need to know about resources).

EDIT: Also, if you figure out how to use it, this'll be quite handy. http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=8

env_model can be used to make trees... Prefabs are usually bad things - they tend to be poorly built themselves, and then when you place them, they get scaled and rotated all over, causing even more unpredictable map wonkyness. I’ve nothing against cutting and pasting, but trying to build a map from prefabs is a doomed endeavor, generally best to avoid them.

I confused prefabs and env_models, I thought that models used in maps were called prefabs, but noticed prefabs were a 100% different thing...

So instead of prefabs, can I find anywhere some palm tree models?

(also, thanks again J-M and Jelly for all the help so far!)

Well there are loads of tree models in the MS:C folder. Take a look around. :D Also, prefabs don't get stretched if you "insert original prefab".

Starting to get the hang of it properly, but wanted to ask how can I make a brush circle shaped, since I haven't had success with the vertex tool, I was going to show a small map I made to learn, but hammer keeps crashing on me and I keep forgetting to safe!

Oh man, how could I not notice that...

I'll try to post this week or next some screenshots of the map I'm making to learn the basics, and once again, thanks for the help Jelly! (and J-M)
