Need Help with mapping

Hi, I'm a beginner to mapping altogether, never mapped once, and I don't know how to make in MS:C.

All I need is:
A mapping tutorial
Hammer (Or whatever mapping program for GoldSrc)
Some confidence.


Currently I have a map idea. My map is going to be entitled valhalla (1-{2,3, or 4, you decide).
It takes place in a frozen winter land with Viking Orcs and chilly creatures. I'm thinking about adding an Axe here to the map (If thats possible and alright) that is I don't know, somewhere between the lines of a lvl 25-35 axe. Its an axe called the Arctic Axe which will be like one of the Great Axes (Powerwise). But to get to this axe you must go through Viking Orcs and other frozen creatures as I mentioned before. Each map in the series will have a mini boss and a boss or waves of enemies and a boss. Each map gets harder just a bit. The series is going to be for levels 30-(New Max Lvl?).

Start experimenting with the original game instead of starting with MSC. Take your plan and put it on hold, you'll never make it right now. The only help you'll get will be from mappers as I believe most of the GoldSource tutorials have disappeared. Take a look at Thoth's mapping thread, that will help quite a bit if you do decide to go straight into MSC.

Google search "Valve Hammer Editor 3.4" (3.5 Beta for model support and other things). Confidence will come as you start mapping.
