I get that error sometimes when I join a server. It instantly crashes MSC and I have to relaunch. I AM able to connect to a server eventually, but it seems random. Keldorn says there is something wrong with my connection. I'm not sure what it would be, really.

It's usually a wireless issue. Sometimes it's a QOS priority issue. You can try changing the priority of Steam or HL.exe - or you can disable QOS packet scheduling in network settings (Network->Properties->[Right Click on your connection->Properties]->Uncheck QoS packet scheduling). Crappy routers will also often cause this, as will wild rate settings. Check that your rate settings are within the realm of reason, especially if you've messed with them recently, and that your Steam->Settings->Download+Cloud "Approximate speed" settings are as well.

- Check your Steam->Setting->Downloads+Cloud and see if the indexing changed your connection type. (Sometimes the region server indexing changes, and you have to reset it manually)
- Go to console (~) and...
- Check cl_updaterate is in a reasonable range (~100)
- Check that cl_cmdrate is in a reasonable range (~100)
- rate and cl_rate should be ~20k and ~5k, respectively
- ex_interp 0 (auto)
- fps_max 999
- cl_cmdbackup 6
