Try doing the download again from www.msremake.com downloads section, something wrong could have happened when transfering the files to you. If that doesn't help... must be something wrong on your computer then

Why do you need a non steam version to play on LAN?

I wish there was a way to play MSC without Steam, but SFAIK, there is not.

On the other hand, Half-Life is $5-$10 dollars, and opens ye up to a slew of free mods. And yes, you can play LAN, but you'll need an internet connection for Steam still - for Off-Line mode is made of fail.

hey guys, thanks for all the replies. i got it all installed correctly and as far as i know it would work. if my laptop could run open gl -_- currently talking to my brother about getting some software that forces open gl. still in the proccess of trying to run the game.

as for wanting to play lan, i started playing with 3 other friends, and we all want to start again. so i was trying to get it working on one version of half life and just share it and all of us play.

jelly, if you knew anything about a lan msc and wanted to ps me that would be awesome.

Meh, DirectX support would be the other thing I'd *really* like to have (more so than the un-Steam even), but alas... Even MiB likely can't save us there.

Good luck with the OpenGL driver for ye laptop. MSC is pretty picky about the OpenGL specification too, using some of the newer extensions. Hopefully yer laptop isn't Vista/7 as then you have to access the OpenGL through a DirectX emulation layer, which further slows and complicates things, making it even less likely it'll work right.

As for Jelly's h4x Half-Life (which I'd link, but I think Lord-K would justly bring the warez thumb of death upon the thread), good luck with that too. It *might* let you play MSC, but it certainly won't let you play on-line, as the servers all require Steam authentication. It *might* allow LAN though, I've not had time to fiddle with it again to see.

If it can, I dunno... Maybe we can work out some sort of stand-alone MSC distrabution to work with Hamachi or some such. Might even be semi-legal if we can work it up in such a way that you have to get most of the Half-Life bits elsewhere.

Don't remember actively looking into OpenGL, yet, but it is likely something beyond my abilities.

I know the bits that make it require OpenGL are likely only in the Vid Init section, and in a few special client-side renders - probably including the Health-Sprite HUD (and maybe the TGA display). Everything else, it seems, should be handled engine side, and just use the renderer it's set for. :\ It might be ya lose some features in DirectX mode, but they could likely be compensated for (if you lost the HUD, for instance, you could use the event reporter health/mana echo option.)

DirectX mode in Half-Life loses a lot of dynamic lighting features and the like, and thus tends to look pretty ugly, but at least it'd work.

Id like to dream of MS as a standalone game. Hell, people donate to a flash MMORPG, why not to a full fledged 3D MMORPG?
