Yeah, Oblivion is an awesome game. The only thing it lacks, and I really mean only, is the fighting system of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic.

Yeah I'm downloading Dark Messiah at home as we speak and I've played the demo.

I like the 1UP.com review of it though.
Welcome to The Adventures of Sir Kicksalot Deathboot in the Land of the Conspicuously Placed Spike Racks.

The kicking maneuver outclasses almost anything you do in that game. I bet I can find a mod for it that puts a cooldown on, or weakens it.

Forget what the master wizard guy calls you... "Sareth..." You're Chuck Norris, If Chuck Norris ever played any kind of video game. "This is what happens when Chuck Norris plays your game, he alters the code allowing unsurpassed kicking ability."

Yeah. The fighting in Dark Messiah is very fast paced, unlike the fighting in Oblivion. :p

I can't say I much liked Oblivion - not enough to finish it, in any case. The scenery is very nice, but also extremely repetitive. The quest system feels very unnatural, and the leveling system is just so bloody arbitrary. Seems there was some creative differences among the devs, as it switches between favoring game play and to favoring "realism" at an alarming rate. Leveling by walking around on the one hand, and having every merchant being able to identify stolen goods on sight on the other, just being one of many examples. The terrible combat spells were also quite painful.

Fallout 3 made much better use of the same engine. Much better scenery, more coherent stat system, and much better game play. It shares some of the same flaws, but overall, it was a vastly superior assemblage of talent.

One thing I really liked about Oblivion, that I had demonstrated to me by a friend, as I never could get myself to play long enough to come across it, was the custom design spell system. If you could do it on the fly, it would have been truly innovative (and I guess you can, if you cheat). The ability to have near limitless spell options and spell stacking options, that you could adjust based on your capabilities as you leveled, was something I always wanted to see in MSC or MSS - especially if you could trade your resulting spell formulas with your friends - there could be a whole community based market of cleverly combined custom spells in that.

Combining DOT's tends to lead to crashes in MSC, so it may not be possible... Then again, we recently nicked an "ApplyMultiDamage" crash bug, so maybe that would resolve the issue. Alas, working up the required GUI would be a bit beyond our current coding capabilities though. :\

There is also complete overhaul mods for oblivion that change the leveling system so it makes sense.

Yea I actually picked that one up, as well as a more realistic archery system where your arrows just dont seem to hover to the target and you have a possability of finding them in the dirt if you miss.

I have a ton of oblivion stuff for oblivion, shimmering isles, and knights of the nine expansions, i mean seriously theirs a mod that lets you buy an entire barracks or castle as well as mansions etc. plus theirs mods to add new quests for better lewts and stuff.

Over all the PC version of oblivion lasts a LONG time compared to a console version, oh and graphics enhancer mods ftw >:D.

I usually just play vanilla Oblivion with all the official DLCs. Across all my characters, I've completed pretty much everything. My last character was a Daedric prince (shivhurring isles - it was pretty but mediocre), Champion of Cyrodiil, leader of the fighter's guild and mages guild. That was fun.

Yea but once you have all that the game can get pretty dull, which is why I ended up getting some player made mods from the Internets.

It was okay. It was nice to have some new things to explore, and it was delightfully sadistic.

just came by to say i tried that spell mod linked above, it's nice but also frustating (...) and i also found out http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.List&game=4 filled with mods for oblivion, found it searching on youtube for armour/weapon mods and there seems to be a really nice amount of them in there.

There are quite few armour mods i seen that were awesome like phoenix armour or some shiny holy armour! :)
