Richard Whitehurst is a Columbus-based artist who made his mark on the Ohio scene by showing at the William Strunk Jr. Museum of Contemporary Art in Akron and internationally regarded galleries such as Alexandria Asheton Gallery and Seward Projects Space. He was the 2006 recipient of an Akron Culture Committee fellowship and has quickly become a seminal figure in the often overshadowed Rustbelt regional art scene, rapidly moving from sculpture and installation to more challenging situational based work that would make Nicolas Bourriaud’s head spin.

In fact, his new controversial work, THE RAPE TUNNEL, which is set to go on view at Columbus’ 4D Gallery on October 30th, has come under fire from Columbus-based feminist groups not to mention, local law enforcement officials. The artist plans to place himself in a room, the only entrance or exit being a 22 ft long plywood tunnel constructed by Whitehurst himself. Then he says that for the duration of the gallery’s opening (from 7:00 p.m. to midnight) he will rape anyone who travels through the tunnel into that room.

Yeah I read about this dude a while ago.
His previous work was the "PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE TUNNEL", and one of the people who he punched in the face, was a woman who worked as a model. He broke her nose and then she sued him. I think there hasn't been any outcome to that lawsuit yet, as the article I read this in mentioned that there are still "unpaid medical fees". Whiteburst mentioned that he "made a very long lasting impression with his art, which isn't something all artists can say" in regards to the broken nose incident.

Meh, the nobel peace prize has been massively corrupt for ages now... Henry f*cking Kissinger has one, for f*ck sake, amongst a few other mass murders. Obama gets one right after escalating the war in Afganistan, aiding in the covering of Israelie attrocities as well as our own toture programs, and really, gets the thing just for having enough sense to appear like a remotely sane and cordial statesmen instead of the bloody psychotic klingon the last president was while never bothering to even pretend to be otherwise. I suppose I could take the optimist's view that it was given to him in hopes that he would become the peacemaker he's been falsely painted to be, but I really doubt it.

Not that all the folks who have gotten them haven't deserved them, but it's really been a 50/50 hit or miss for quite some time.
