My Laptop Specifications:
Windows Vista Home Basic
1014 Ram
Intel (R) Core(TM) Duo CPU T2350 @ 1.86ghz (2 CPUS)
DirectX 10
Mobile Intel (R) 945 Express Chipset Family (With Latest Drivers)
*using all of the low performance settings in userconfig (settings in the stickied thread)
**using forced direct x 9.0 mode

The Problem:
The game loads fine without a hitch upon startup, character select screens completely lagless. standard gameplay goes to around 30-60 fps-ish with exceptions. the exceptions are the problem here.

1. certain maps/areas, like edana (spiking from 4-60 fps, averaging more on the low side) and facing the spawn of daragoth (from 50fps to 10-ish)
2. light related spells (glow, torches and such causes my fps to drop to 4fps =.=)

i read around in the steam forums that it is my chipset that is the problem causer here, but i still find it weird that i hav a previous laptop model that has a similar older chipset but runs with less performance issues than my current laptop. maybe its cause of vista after all. doesnt seem to be my newer drivers as well since it still ran similarly when i tested with older set of drivers. also my newer laptop is running duo core unlike my older laptop which im unsure if it might be causing the problem here. can anyone help me with this problem?

i hav alreadi added it into my userconfig, unfortunately it doesnt seem to be doing much in reducing the lag.
is forcing directx mode 9 a good idea too btw? i read up in a steampowered thread that forcing older directx modes could help increase the performance of older games but im afraid i might screw something with it. any ideas?

Try to use the lowest color depth in the game config. Also check your fps in console, if i recall correctly the command was fps_max,hit enter and make sure it says 60

Yer screwed... That's close to the same type of graphics card my motherboard uses. I've had to rely on it during a card RMA, and I can tell ye - it does NOT like OpenGl, and it especially does not like Half-Life's method of dynamic lighting, so if anyone casts Glow, expect your FPS to drop to 4. ;)

I know no way of disabling dynamic lighting, but for the rest, you can see the sticky yonder:
