anyone interesting in trying out The Ship?

I have one of those guest pass things, I think it gives the ability to play for three days if anyone is interested just leave a post.

and for those that really, really want it you will just have to prove to me how bad you want it.

I'm a big fan of The Ship. I'm such a big fan, that I even own the ship singleplayer and multiplayer. Please give me the guest pass. I promise I will be thankful for it.

Sorry Couldn't resist.

Somebody has had a bad experience with The Ship? What happened, you tried to enjoy your cruise but people kept murdering you with an axe?

How is that not giving it a chance? I saw the game play, I saw the "plot" of the game, I saw how much it sucked.

I came, I saw, I vomitted.

I like 'the ship' for the sole purpose of random slaughter, come on what other game allows you to go around and actually shank someone with a hobo knife in prison? :D

and of course some other comical moments have been found, but if I had the choice again I wouldn't buy it.

Yea, the idea was pretty good. But the gameplay is "meh."

Although, I really like some of the levels. The level where you are on that paddlewheel boat, the surrounding shore is very good looking.

I enjoyed The Ship for Half-Life (the free modification) pretty much, but in The Ship for Half-Life 2, they added too much crap. I didn't really like it.

I liked The Ship only to stalk random people on the ship, I'd end up running after that person or a gun to the face around the corner

The Ship version of HL1 was the best. I was an ace player back then; only about 3 other people could stand toe-to-toe with me :D (no shit, seriously)

When I first played The Ship for HL2...it was quite cool at first. You had an inventory system and you could change into any clothes as you liked. Very cool.

Then when I heard that non-hunter/quarry passengers could witness killings and don't trigger the jail thing (big factor of the original HL1 mod), I got pissed. To top it off, there were no AI passengers to impede your progress, which was another big thing about the original which made it tense and challenging.

I will admit that The Ship (HL2) was very atmospheric. The old one lacked a lot of atmosphere and the environments felt more like buildings. However, there were plenty of ventilation shafts, kitchens, and lounges to explore in the original, which helped a lot in tactics.

The Ship for HL2 didn't feel like I could be very tactical. It was more like, just avoid the guards, find your quarry and whack him. In The Ship for HL1, it was more like: don't trust anyone. watch your back allll the damn time. be wary of any incoming passengers that may spoil your kill. Watch out for security cameras. It was especially lacking in the area of traps...a popular tactic of mine was to plant a bomb in a bag in the sickbay, hit them with a syringe, and blow them up when they arrive.

The HL2 version of the Ship is unfortunately subpar in terms of gameplay compared to the HL1 version. Though the HL2 version has superior graphics, more customization and better immersion, the HL1 version is definitely more fun to play. If you can, grab a group of 3-4 friends and play the HL1 version. It's incredibly fun. :D

so I take it no one actually wants the free pass thing I have?

eh oh well not like it really matters, surprised to see so many people like the hl1 version more, I thought it was to hectic, it felt way to paranoid to me that and everyone just sort of ran around looking stupid. My biggest gripe is the the ease of finding a blind spot in security that still lets you see everyone.

The hl2 version offers many improvements everything is more calm and relaxed more like it should be, and if the server admin set it up right with a 0 second delay after pulling the weapon out and being seen you could have hours of fun as just a normal person getting people put in jail.

but meh, I don't really play the game online I prefer whole sale slaughter of bots.
