Hey guys, I'm a long time mapper for HL1 and I have some experience in source mapping... but when I try to map for MSC ( I was thinking about making some maps to add to my rotation) I keep getting errors in steam.

Since the maps are going to be small, I'm compiling them through Hammer + Zoner's tools. They compile fine, but when I try to launch the map over lan in MSC, it crashes out saying it cannot find a certain wad, even though no such wad exists. First it was stea.wad, then steam.wad, then steama.wad, and finally steamapps.wad

I noticed after compiling some textures in the goblintown wads and the platinum wad were oversized, and I tried doing only 8 wads in hammer and still got the same error. I was only using the following textures on the map when I compiled:
medgrass_ewok
ikrocka
{blue
sky
clip
{grassplz_ewok

I have a feeling its one of these textures causing the game to malfunction, because I tried testing out a box'd map with only one different texture and it worked.

Sounds as though the paths to your textures are screwed up, but I've no experience with Source Hammer, only Worldcraft and Hammer 3.5, so I canna help ya much with configuration there.

Hammer 3.5 doesn't like paths with certain characters in them sometimes (including "@"), so I suggest moving any and all wads you are going to use to a shallow directory (like c:\hammer\wads) and pointing hammer to them there.

Source automatically pick your wad file for source.

Source doesn't use wadfiles; Source uses material files which are packed in GCF archives.

PiMpStA and Shurik3n, as far as I can tell, this is not about Source.

So CSS, you've made a map in Hammer v3.5, right?
Not Hammer v4.0, which can be run only through Steam, and is used for Source mapping, right?
You've compiled with the latest version of ZHLT I assume?
Could you list all the wadfiles you're using?

As far as I know, oversized wads shouldn't be causing any problems. However, do make sure you place the wadfiles you use in a 'shallow directory', as Thothie suggested.

I always keep my wadfiles in:
C:\Hammer\wads

Yes I'm using 3.5, always used Hammer 3.5 for HL1 and Source SDK for Source mapping.

I got it to work after changing the textures up a bit and limiting myself to 8 wads. I think there were some conflicts with some of the custom wads that were in my MSC directory that came with custom maps.

I'm working on a Cathedral map right now that you start off in a canyon and come up to a valley that leads to a steppe. It's looking kickin' rad. Hopefully FN will accept it :D ~its not a cheet map
